    • He [John Devereux] married, between 13 August 1386 and 17 August 1390, Philippe, elder daughter and coheir of Sir GUY DE BRIENE, of Oxenhall, co. Gloucester (son and heir apparent of Sir GUY DE BRIENF, of Laugharne, co. Carmarthen, and Walwyn's Castle, co. Pembroke [LORD BRIENE]), by Alice, daughter and heir of Sir Robert DE BURES, of Bures St. Mary, Suffolk. He died s.p. and a minor, 13 Nov. 1396. His widow had livery of her purparty of the lands of her grandfather,Sir Guy de Briene, 14 June 1397, her homage being respited. She, who was born in 1378 or 1379, in co. Devon, married, as 1st wife (papal mandate for disp., 5 February 1397/8), Sir Henry Le Scrope, of Masham and Upsall, co. York, 3rd LORD SCROPE, and died s.p. 19 November 1406. He was condemned to death as a traitor and beheaded at the North Gate of Southampton, 5 August 1415. He died s.p. Will, mentioning that his burial was to be in the [Cath.] Church of York, dated 23 June 1415 3 Hen. V. [Complete Peerage IV:300, XIV:258, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]

      He [Henry le Scrope] married, 1stly (dispensation ex post facto of the Archbishop of York with papal authority, 11 July 1398), Philippe (aged 12 in 1390), widow of John DEVEREUX [2nd LORD DEVEREAUX], 1st daughter and coheir of Sir GUY DE BRIENE or DE BRYAN (died v.p.), son and heir apparent of GUY (DE BRIENE or DE BRYAN), LORD BRYAN.
