Lavina BALLARD, who was born in Roane County, Tenn., February 7, 1822. She is the daughter of William and Mary BALLARD. She had a good education, and is a member of the Baptist Church. This union to Dr. James Oliphant resulted in eight children, four of them: Mary J., John J., Samuel B., and Charles W.

Lavinia married Dr. James Madison OLIPHANT on 18 Aug 1840 in Roane County, Tennessee. James (son of James Monroe OLIPHANT and Mary "Polly" COMPTON) was born on 30 Apr 1816 in Greene County, Tennessee; died in 1901 in Greene County, Tennessee; was buried in Mt. Hebron E.U.B. 1. Mary Jane OLIPHANT was born on 10 Sep 1841; died in 1928.
2. Ann E. OLIPHANT was born about 1844; and died.
3. William D. OLIPHANT was born about 1846; and died.
4. Sarah Emma OLIPHANT was born on 8 Mar 1851; died on 20 Dec 1937 in Sussex Co, Delaware.
5. John J. OLIPHANT was born on 3 Apil 1855; died on 4 Nov 1895 in Arkansas; was buried in Cypert, Phillips, Arkansas.
6. Samuel B. OLIPHANT was born about 1856; and died.
7. Charles W. OLIPHANT was born in 1859 in Tennessee; and died.
