    Notes:

Of this Bishop of Bajeux, being outed of his vast Possessions Anno 1088, William, having already treated, I need only observe here, that his Feodary Tenant Robert de Thain, obtained this Manor, and became Ancestor to a Family hence denominated, which resided here in Henry IId's Time; for in an Account I have seen of the Family, mention is made of Robert Chetwode being Lord of Chetwood, Temp. Hen. II, who had Issue Sir Ralph Chetwode, who attended King Richard the first unto the Holy Wars.
In the Fines Anno 1222, 7 Hen. Ill, John de Chetwode passed a Moiety or half Part of this Manor to Robert his Son, probably on his Marriage: And in the fame Reign, Anno 1244, Sir Ralph de Norwich founding a Priory here b, Robert de Chetwode, as we are told in the Account of the Family, released for himself and his Heirs to the Prior and Canons of Chetwode, and their Successors, all Rents, Duties, and Services for all the Lands they held in Chetwood, on their Payment of a Mark in Silver. And Sibill his Wife surviving him, in her Widowhood, granted two Yard Land, with the Appartenances, to an Hermitage founded in Chetwode. This Robert left Issue two Sons, viz. Sir John Chetwood, and William, ..." Source Par Browne Willis:
    "CHETWOOD

"... Willis represents this Robert de Tham, or de Thain, to have been the ancestor of a family resident here, in the time of Hen. II. and it has been thence inferred, that Robert Chetwode, who was undoubtedly Lord of Chetwode in the same reign, was, in fact, the same person, and father of Sir Ralph Chetwode, who attended King Richard to the Holy War; from which period this ancient family has continued in uninterrupted possession of Chetwode to the present time. ..." Notes:

THIS family, which is of ancient extraction, was undoubtedly situated at Chetwode in Buckinghamshire, long before the conquest.

John Chetwode, the ancestor, from whom this pedigree is clearly deduced, was a person of note in his time, being a knight, and lord of the manor of Chetwode. This John had issue, Robert Chetwode, lord of Chetwode, who founded the priory of Chetwode in the life-time of his father; and the said John, and Robert, with , his wife, lie buried in the church belonging to the said priory, as appeared by an ancient monument, which was defaced after the suppression of the said priory.

Robert had issue, Sir Rause Chetwode, Knt. who had issue, Robert Chetwode, lord of Chetwode, who lived 5 Henry I. and married Sibell, daughter of Thomas Strange. He attended King Richard I. into Syria; and, for his achievement in arms, received the honour of knighthood from that prince, in Palestine; and, on his return from the holy wars, received other singular marks of that monarch's favour.

Robert had issue, John Chetwode, Knt. and William Chetwode, a second son, who was seised of lands in Horton, in Kent. " - Source - The Baronetage of England: Containing a Genealogical and ..., Volume 2> Par Thomas Wotton,Richard A. Johnson,Edward Kimber:
