"rem. to Sumsbury 1667-9; left there after the burning of the town byIndians, 1676; was afterwards employed in surveying Ellington, where hesettled. The Hon. Judge Benjamin Pinney of Ell., in a letter dated 24May, 1850, says: 'We can show you the homestead where Samuel Pinney builthis log-house; and I feel proud in saying that the land bought by himfrom the Indians is now in the hands of my son William, and two halfbrow. Nelson and Andrew Pinney, and it has never been in other hands thanthe Pinneys. It is the only tract of land in this town which has neverbeen conveyed by deed from the family descendants. Of this tract no deedcan be found but the Indian title to Samuel Pinney."

BIOGRAPHY: Humphrey was named executor in the will of his uncle, Edmund. It is believed he returned to England to settle the estate, probably before Aug 1633, when he received a grant of 4 acres at Dorchester, MA. Edmund Pinney left a considerable estate and named Humphrey as his chief beneficiary, calling him "son", which has led to some confusion about his actual relationship. Humphrey was made freeman 14 May 1634 and on 4 Jan 1635 he was granted 20 acres of land between Dorchester & Roxbury. He later received 10 acres of meadow land beyond Neponset River. He was an original settler at Windsor, his early residence being on the west side of the Main street, about 1 mile north of the present Congretional Church. In 1675, Humphrey, along with Thomas Ford, George Hull, and Thomas Lewis, purchased land from the indians for the inhabitants of Windsor.

Humphrey married Mary HULL on 14 May 1634 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Mary was born in 1618 in England; died on 18 Aug 1684 in Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

BIOGRAPHY: The Bissell family lived in Lincolnshire, England with children Mary, John Jr., and Thomas. They emigrated to America and the Plymouth Colony in 1628 where Samuel was born. Later settled at Windsor,CT. where Joyce and Nathaniel were born. BIOGRAPHY: Ran a ferry called 'Bissells Ferry'. He was a Capt. of the Troops in King Phillips War, 1676 and Horse Troop in 1677 until his death. CONFLICT: Wife in two WFT 9-1500 and 9-608 is noted to have been Mary Drake not Elizabeth Thompson, Also another Wife is Listed as Abigail Moore.
