William de Beauchamp, 9th Earl of Warwick (c. 1238 ? 1298) was the eldest of eight children of William de Beauchamp of Elmley and his wife Isabel de Mauduit. He was an English nobleman and soldier, described as a "vigorous and innovative military commander." He was active in the field against the Welsh for many years, and at the end of his life campaigned against the Scots.

His father was William (III) de Beauchamp of Elmley Castle, Worcestershire, and his mother was Isabel de Mauduit, sister and heiress of William Mauduit, 8th Earl of Warwick, from whom he inherited his title in 1268. He had a sister, Sarah, who married Richard Talbot.
He married Maud FitzJohn. Their children included:
1. Isabella de Beauchamp, who married firstly Sir Patrick de Chaworth and, secondly, Hugh le Despenser, 1st Earl of Winchester
2. Guy de Beauchamp, 10th Earl of Warwick, who married Alice de Toeni, widow of Thomas de Leyburne.

He became hereditary High Sheriff of Worcestershire for life on the death of his father in 1268.
He was a close friend of Edward I of England, and was an important leader in Edward's invasion of Wales in 1277. In 1294 he raised the siege of Conwy Castle, where the King had been penned in, crossing the estuary. He was victorious on 5 March 1295 at the battle of Maes Moydog against the rebel prince of Wales, Madog ap Llywelyn. In a night attack on the Welsh infantry he used cavalry to drive them into compact formations which were then shot up by his archers and charged.

William III de Beauchamp (c. 1215 ? 1269) of Elmley Castle in Worcestershire, was an English baron and hereditary Sheriff of Worcestershire.
He was the son and heir of Walter II de Beauchamp (1192/3-1236) of Elmley Castle, hereditary Sheriff of Worcestershire, by his wife Johanna Mortimer (d.1225), daughter of Roger Mortimer (d. 1214) of Wigmore Castle in Herefordshire.
Career
On the death of his father in 1236 he became hereditary Sheriff of Worcestershire, which title he held until his death. In 1249 he was excommunicated by Walter de Cantilupe, Bishop of Worcester, but was later absolved, in the presence of the king, on St. Edmund's Day, 1251.

Marriage and children
He married Isabel de Mauduit, daughter of William de Mauduit of Hanslope in Buckinghamshire and Hartley Mauditt, Hampshire (by his wife Alice de Beaumont (d. pre- 1263), half-sister of Henry de Beaumont, 5th Earl of Warwick (c.1192-1229)) and sister and heiress of William Mauduit, 8th Earl of Warwick. By Isabel he had issue including:
1. William de Beauchamp, 9th Earl of Warwick (c.1238-1298), eldest son and heir;

John was a man of great wealth and position, who was appointed Justice of England, and at the coronation of King John, June 26, 1199, was girt with the sword, as Earl of Essex, and then served at the King's table). John Fitz-Goeffrey, on the death of his half-brother William in 1227, paid a fine to the King of 300 marks for those lands which were his father's and did by inheritance rightly belong to him, and whereof this last Earl William died seized. In the 18th of Henry III, this John was constituted Sheriff of Yorkshire, and in the same reign was admitted one of the Privy Council, and the same year was one of those sent to the Pope to prohibit his attempting anything therein prejudicial to the interests of the King and kingdom. In eight years afterwards John Fitz-Goeffrey was one of the commissioners sent from King Henry III, with Roger Bigod and others, to the Council at Lyons, in order to complain of the great exactions made upon the realm by the Holy See; the next year he was constituted Justice of Ireland, where for his services he received a grant from the crown of the Isles of Thomond.

Walter II de Beauchamp (1192/3 ? 1236), of Elmley Castle in Worcestershire (12 miles south-east of the City of Worcester), was hereditary Sheriff of Worcestershire.
He was the second son and eventual heir of William II de Beauchamp (d.1197) of Elmley, hereditary constable of Worcester Castle and hereditary Sheriff of Worcestershire, who died when Walter was aged about 5, when his wardship and marriage was acquired firstly by William de Braose and secondly, for the sum of 3,000 marks, by Roger Mortimer (d. 1214) of Wigmore Castle.

Early origins
He was the great-grandson of Walter I de Beauchamp (d.1133) of Elmley Castle, hereditary Sheriff of Worcestershire, who married Emmeline d'Abetot, daughter and heiress of Urse d'Abetot (c.1040-1108), feudal baron of Salwarpe in Worcestershire and Sheriff of Worcestershire in about 1069. Walter I de Beauchamp inherited his father-in-law's barony and also inherited Elmley Castle and other estates (held from the Bishop of Worcester) from his wife's uncle Robert d'Abetot.

Career
Walter's elder brother William died before Michaelmas 1211, leaving Walter as his heir, then aged 19. In 1212, still not having reached the age of mojority (i.e. 21), he was married to Johanna Mortimer (d.1225), his warder's daughter. He was in possession of his barony by 1214. He obtained his father's hereditary office of Sheriff of Worcestershire on 19 August 1215, but lost it in May 1216 when, with nineteen of his knights, he deserted to the rebels. He returned to his allegiance to King John in August 1216, and was reinstated in his lands. Walter was a witness at the re-issue of Magna Carta on 11 November 1216 and in March 1217 he was restored by King Henry III to his shrievalty and castellanship, and became Keeper of the Royal Forests in Worcestershire. He witnessed the further re-issue of Magna Carta on 11 February 1225.

He married twice:

Firstly, in 1212 at the age of 20, to Johanna Mortimer (d.1225), daughter of his warder Roger Mortimer (d. 1214) of Wigmore Castle, by whom he had issue including:
1. William (III) de Beauchamp (1215-1269), eldest son and heir, who married Isabel de Mauduit, sister and heiress of William Mauduit, 8th Earl of Warwick, by whom he was the father of William de Beauchamp, 9th Earl of Warwick.

In 1208 King John confirmed the manor of Walton, Warwickshire to Alice and her heirs, it being previously granted her by her father for her marriage. In 1220 Robert de la Mare sued him and his wife, Alice, for two carucates of land in Walton, Warwickshire. He presented to the churches of Hanslope, Buckinghamshire, 1227, Hawridge, Buckinghamshire, 1227, 1228, and 1232, Barrowden, Rutland, 1232, and South Luffenham, Rutland, 1233 and 1234. In 1228 John de Neketone, rector, presented to the church of Cottesmore, Rutland with the consent of William Mauduit, the patron. In 1234 he acknowledged that he owed the abbot of Westminster service of 21s. 10d. from 14 tenants on his Westminster estate, in return for which arrears of the service were acquitted. In 1243-6 William and his wife, Alice, heir apparent of the Warwick estates, granted that if Margery, sister and heir of Thomas, late Earl of Warwick, died without issue that her husband John de Plessy would be earl of Warwick for life, and hold certain manors including Brailes, Claverdon, Myton, Sutton, Tamworth, and Wedgnock, Warwickshire. In 1247 he sued Robert de Wancy in a plea of wardship in Northamptonshire. In 1248 John de Plessy and Margaret his wife claimed the manor of Greetham and half the manor of Cottesmore, Rutland against William Mauduit and Alice his wife. The same year William and his wife, Alice, conveyed three acres of land in Weston Mauduit, Warwickshire to Geoffrey de Langley. In 1253 Roger de Hertewell and his wife, Isabel, quitclaimed 16 acres of land in Hanslope, Buckinghamshire to William and his wife, Alice.
SIR WILLIAM MAUDUIT died shortly before 14 Feb. 1257.

WILLIAM [IV] Mauduit of Hanslope, Berkshire (-before 14 Feb 1257). Henry III King of England granted letters of conduct to "Willelmus Maudut" to "comitem W. Marescallum, ad loquendem cum eo de deliberacione R. patris sui" dated [early] 1217[1114]. "William Mauduit" gave pledges for "full seisin?of all lands?of which Robert Mauduit his father was seised on the day he died" in Hampshire, dated [Jun] 1222[1115]. "William Mauduit" paid homage to the king for "the lands that Isabella Basset, mother of the said William, whose heir he is, held in chief in his bailiwick", dated 11 Dec 1225[1116]. A charter dated 3 Feb 1247 records a final agreement between "Johannem de Plesseto" and "Willelmum Mauduyt et Aliciam uxorem eius", relating to "maneriis Warwyk?pertientibus ad comitatum Warr, unde Thomas frater Margerie uxoris eiusdem Johannis, cuius heres ipsa est", agreeing the succession of the latter if the wife of the former died without heirs[1117].

King John confirmed "manerio de Wauton", granted to "Alic fil com Walann de Warewic" by "predictus com Walann ad se maritand", by charter dated 30 Nov 1208[1118]. A charter dated 3 Feb 1247 records a final agreement between "Johannem de Plesseto" and "Willelmum Mauduyt et Aliciam uxorem eius", relating to "maneriis Warwyk?pertientibus ad comitatum Warr, unde Thomas frater Margerie uxoris eiusdem Johannis, cuius heres ipsa est", agreeing the succession of the latter if the wife of the former died without heirs[1119].

William [IV] & his wife had three children:

a) RICHARD Mauduit (-after [1212/13]). A charter dated to [1212/13] confirmed that "Thom Maudut" had freed "Ric fil Willi Maudut" from being a hostage to the king[1120].

b) WILLIAM [V] Mauduit ([1220/21]-8 Jan 1267, bur Westminster Abbey). He succeeded his father in [1257] in his lands and as joint hereditary Chamberlain of the Exchequer. He succeeded in 1263 as Earl of Warwick on the death of Earl John du Plessis, second husband of his first cousin Margery Ctss of Warwick. A writ dated 20 Jan "52 Hen III", after the death of "William Maudut?earl of Warwick", names "William de Bello Campo the younger, son of hs sister Isabel deceased who was married to William de Bello Campo the elder, age variously stated as 26 and more, and 30 and more,, is his heir"[1121]. m ALICE de Segrave, daughter of GILBERT de Segrave & his wife Amabil de Chaucombe (-after 8 Jan 1268). A writ dated 20 Jan "52 Hen III", after the death of "William Maudut?earl of Warwick", records that "Alice late his wife seeks her dower"[1122].

c) ISABEL Mauduit (-after 7 Jan 1269). Her parentage and marriage are confirmed by a writ dated 20 Jan "52 Hen III", after the death of "William Maudut?earl of Warwick", which names her son "William de Bello Campo the younger, son of his sister Isabel deceased who was married to William de Bello Campo the elder, age variously stated as 26 and more, and 30 and more,, is his heir"[1123]. "Dominum Willelmum de Bello Campo, vicecomitem Wygorn et Isabellam uxorem eius" granted "totam terram suam?in Uplodecoumbe" to "dominam Isabellam de Mortuo Mare" by charter dated [24 Jun 1250], witnessed by "?domino Jacobo de Bello Campo?"[1124]. The will of "William de Beauchamp", dated 7 Jan 1268, chose burial "in the church of the Friars Minors of Worcester", requested a daily mass there for the souls of "Isabel my wife, Isabel de Mortimer", bequeathed property to "Walter my son...Joane my daughter...Isabel my daughter...Sibill my daughter...Sarah my daughter...William my eldest son...my daughter the countess his wife...Isabel my wife..."[1125]. m WILLIAM [IV] de Beauchamp of Elmley, Worcestershire, son of WALTER [III] de Beauchamp of Elmley & his wife Joan Mortimer (-[7 Jan/21 Apr] 1269).

Surety of the Magna Carta. He was third Earl of Norfolk and Suffolk. He was born before 1195, and took part from the beginning in the Barons' Magna Charta proceedings. Not many particulars of this Baron's life have been preserved, as he enjoyed for only a few years the title of Earl of Norfolk and Suffolk, and his father's estates and honors, to which he had succeeded in the 5th of King Henry III. He died four years later, in February 1224/5, having married about 1212 Maud, a sister of the Surety William Marshall. In her right, Hugh acquired the Earldom of Pembroke, and in this rank bore the royal sceptre at the coronation of King Richard
