Abt 1826 - Yes, date unknown
Generation: 1
1. | Caroline MITCHELL was born about 1826 in Georgia; and died. Other Events:
- _UID: 16037FCE91434CCEA3FD21229ED7E312A120
Notes:
Caroline is listed in the 1860 Oglethorpe County census page 413 with
just the children. Sterling is listed on the 1860 Hamilton County,
Tennessee & 1870 Walker County census with a wife named Mary. This
suggests that Caroline and Sterling were either divorced proir to the
1860census or he left her and went to Tennessee where he remarried.
Our Sterling could be the "BLACK SHEEP" of the Bacon family if he
abandoned Caroline and became a bigamist. Divorce was VERY uncommon for
this era.
Caroline married Sterling Theophilus BACON on 17 Mar 1844 in Newton County, Georgia. Sterling (son of Nicholas Hobson BACON and Sarah V. MATTHEWS) was born on 14 May 1824 in Georgia; died after 1880 in Georgia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
