    Notes:

    About Sir William Witchingham (Wychingham)
    Sir William de Wychingham, son of Richard de Wichingham, was lord in the 33d of Edward III.; he was bred to the law, of which he was a serjeant, and a judge of the Common-pleas in 1363; by his will proved March 25, 1381, he was buried in the south isle of Wichingham St. Mary's church, which he had built; gives legacies to Margaret his wife, (fn. 6) to Richer, Nicholas, and William, his sons, and to William [Clere] and Dionysia his wife, who was his daughter.

    That his wife's name was Margaret is certain; that she was Lady Margaret de Brewse is not. It is rather more likely that she was the daughter of one Roger or William de Rising or Woodrising, of merely local importance.

    St. Mary's church includes (or included) many armorial bearings and impalements, but that of de Brewse is not to be found. If his wife were a de Brewse, surely her family's blazon would have been prominently featured?

    [I]n the 18th of Edward III. John de Enepol and Joan his wife, Henry Broom of Reedham and Maud his wife, Thomas Pykel and Joan his wife, sold their right in this lordship, with lands, &c. to Wichingham St. Mary, and St. Faith's, to Will. de Witchingham, quit of the heirs of John, Maud, Joan, and Alice. http://apling.freeservers.com/Villages/WoodrisingBlomfield.htm

    Notes:

    "WICHINGHAM's MANOR. In the 1st of king John, William de Bellamont, and Muriel his wife, conveyed by fine to Gilbert de Langtoft, the service of two knights fees, and the third part of one in this town, Saxlingharn, Bintry, Ickburgh, &c. and Sarah de Wychingham was found, in the 31ft of Henry III. to hold the fourth part of a fee here of Robert Langtoft, he of the earl of Gloucester, and the earl of the king: she was then the widow of Walter de Wychingham, descended of an ancient family, who had very soon after the conquest an interest here. William, son of Wycher de Wychingham, was living in the reign of king Stephen, and Roger de Wychingham was father of Walter aforesaid, whose son Walter was living in the 53d of Henry III. when Robert de Newton, sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk, received 10s. 8d. of him to excuse him from being a knight; and the said Walter was lord, and kept a court in the 7th of Edward 1.

    "Roger, son of Walter, was living in the said reign, and granted messuages, lands, &c. to Sarah, widow of Walter.

    "Sir William de Wychingham, son of Richer de Wychingham, was lord in the 33d of Edward III. ..."[1]

    It would appear that "Roger" is the same as "Richer": Sir William de Wychingham's father Richer is the same as "Roger, son of Walter."

    Joan Beaumont was born circa 1289, at Witnesham, Woodbrodge, Suffolk, England.

    Joan was married twice:

    Sir Giles de Braose of Stinton and Ludborough, who died before 6 February, 1311, with whom Joan had children:
    1.) Richard de Breuse, born circa 1302, died before 1320;

    2.) Robert de Brewes, born before 1305-6, died before 12 July, 1325;

    3.) Sir John de Braose of Stinton and Ludsborough, born 10 August, 1306;

    Edmund Bacon married Joan de Brewes; Joan and Edmund had children:
    1.) Margery Bacun, who was married to William de Kerdeston

    An Inquisition was taken after the death of Joan's first husband, Giles de Brewosa alias de Breuse, de Breouse, following a writ issued on 6 February, 1311, which found that his heir was Richard de Breuse, son of Giles and his wife, Joan, who was aged 9 that year. Giles, his wife, Joan, and their son Richard, held Lutheburgh, Lincolnshire, jointly by the gift of Roger de Breuse by fine levied in the king's court in 34 Edward I, to be held to them and the heirs of the body of Richard, with remainder to his brother, Robert, and the heirs of his body, with remainder to the right heirs of Giles.

    On 22 May 1325, from Bordeaux, Edmund of Woodstock, earl of Kent, sent a request to Hugh le Despenser, jnr, for Edmund Bacon to have the marriage of John de Braose, presumably Edmund's stepson who would have been 19 years old at the time.

    Joan Beaumont died in 1332. Joan's widower, Edmund Bacon, married Margery Pounynges, and died about the feast of the Annunciation 15 March, 1336.
