    2nd son of Thomas Stanley; of Holt; knight; supporter of Henry Tudor at Bosworth Field 1485; DNB. Beheaded in the Perkin Warbeck conspiracy. Holt is in Denbighshire about ten miles due south of Chester. He was the richest man in England, which may have caused a rapacious King Henry VII to have schemed his destruction.

    He [John Tiptoft] married, 3rdly, circa September 1467, at Ludlow, Salop, Elizabeth, widow of Sir Roger CORBET, of Moreton Corbet, Salop (died shortly before 16 June 1467), sister and heir of Walter HOPTON, of Hopton, Salop, daughter of Thomas HOPTON, of the same, by Eleanor, sister and (in her issue) coheir of Sir William Lucy, of Newington, Kent, and Richard's Castle, co. Hereford, daughter of Sir Walter Lucy, of the same. He died intestate 18 October 1470, aged 43, and was buried in the Church of the Black Friars by Ludgate. M.I. there. Effigy (with two of his wives) and monument in Ely Cathedral. His widow married, 3rdly, before 7 December 1471, as his 2nd wife, Sir William STANLEY, K.G. (younger brother of Thomas, 1st EARL OF DERBY), who was found guilty of treason for his support of Perkin Warbeck and beheaded, 16 February 1494/5, on Tower Hill. She died 22 June 1498.     Elizabeth FitzAlan, Duchess of Norfolk (1366 ? 8 July 1425) was an English noblewoman and the wife of Thomas Mowbray, 1st Duke of Norfolk. Through her eldest daughter, Lady Margaret Mowbray, Elizabeth was an ancestress of King Henry VIII's consorts Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard, and the Howard Dukes of Norfolk. Her other notable descendants include Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk; Thomas Stanley, 1st Earl of Derby; Sir Thomas Wyatt, the younger; and Lady Jane Grey (by both parents).

    Lady Elizabeth was born in Derbyshire, England, a daughter of Richard FitzAlan, 11th Earl of Arundel and his first wife Elizabeth de Bohun, daughter of William de Bohun, 1st Earl of Northampton and Elizabeth de Badlesmere.

    Elizabeth had five husbands and at least seven children:

    WALTER LUCY, son and heir, was aged 40 and (much] more when he succeeded his father. His marriage made him a landowner in the West of England; as early as 1415 he was a commissioner in the marches of Wales, and later justice of the peace, and commisioner on several occasions in Hereford, Salop, and Worcs. In 1416 he was a knight, though it was as plain Walter Lucy, of Richard's Castle, that he had protection on going to the French war, January 1419/20, in the company of the Earl of March.

    He married, in or before May 1385, Eleanor, elder daughter and coheir of Sir Warin ARCEDEKNE, by Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John TALBOT, of Richard's Castle. He died 4 October 1444. His widow died 20 July 1447. [Complete Peerage VIII:261-2, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
