BARONY of STRYVELYN (I) 1363 to 1378
John de Stryvelyn (b) was in Oct 1535 granted the remainder to the manor of Belsay and Newlands in Northumberland to him and his heirs, in consideration of his having been taken prisoner in the King's service against the Scots and kept prisoner for a long time; and in the same month was appointed Sheriff of Edinburgh and custodian of the Castle. In Feb 1337/8, having left the Castle in pursuit of booty, he was captured and taken to Dumbarton. In 1337 and frequently thereafter he was in commissions. In Feb 1338/9 he was in the King's service beyond the seas, and in July 1342 was about to set out with his men for parts beyond the sea. In Aug 1343 he had lately been in the King's service in Scotland. On 20 Dec 1343 he was granted the reversion of the manor of Faxfleet, Yorks, in tail male. In 1343 he was appointed Sheriff of Northumberland, but declined. He had shortly before been wounded and ill. In Jan 1344/5 he was Custodian of the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, until some time before 30 Nov 1346. In Mar 1346/7 he was preparing to join in the invasion of Scotland. In Mar 1351/2 he is recorded as holding Burneton and other lands in Northumberland of Henry de Percy. In 1356 certain lands near Berwick-upon-Tweed were restored to him. On 1 Jun 1363 he was summoned to Parliament by writ directed 'Johanni de Stryvelyn', whereby he is held to have become LORD STRYVELYN.
He m. 1stly, before 1339, Barbara, daughter of Adam de Swinbourn, and sister and heir of Henry de Swinbourn.; and 2ndly, before 1365, Jacoba, daughter and coheir of Richard de Emeldon. He dsps (d), 15 Aug 1378, when the Barony became extinct. His widow m. 2ndly before 24 Aug 1379, Robert de Clyfford, and d. 6 Feb 1390/1. [Complete Peerage XII/1:407-8]
(b) Nothing is known of his parentage. A John de Stryvelyn, knight, submitted to Edward I in 1296 and engaged for himself and his heirs to serve him loyally, and had his lands in Dumbarton, Edinburgh, Stirling and Clackmannan restored to him. At the same time Alexander son of John de Stryvelyn recovered his lands in Lanark. Others of the same surname occur during the reigns of Henry III and Edward I and II.
(d) By one of his wives John de Stryvelyn had a son John, who was dead in 1367.
Note: Oviously BP has a daughter for John (probably by his 2nd wife), so I am changing CP's "dsps" (died without surviving issue) above to "dspms" (died without survivng male issue).

Biography
Christian Mowbray (b c. 1305? - d. 30 Dec 1363).[1][2]
Note on parentage: The Visitation of the North dated c 1480 - 1490 identifies Christian, second wife of Sir William de Plumpton, as "filia Mowbray" that is "daughter of Mowbray," but does not record the given name of her father.
Supporting contemporary evidence of Christian's family name is is provided by an entry in the Close Rolls dated 12 Dec. 1333 which indicates that Christian, then widow of Richard de Emeldon, appointed john de Moubray "her brother" and Henry Haydock, clerk, to set her dower[see C.C.R. 133-137(1898):185; citation courtesy of Paul M. Gifford].
Regardless, in the absence of additional evidence, it has been impossible to to place Christian with any certainty among the various branches of the Mowbray family then in England and Scotland."

? Hickling (n.d.), states that Christiana de Plumpton's father is probably John I, Lord Mowbray and therefore John II, Lord Mowbray, is her brother. Richardson (2013), however, does not name Christiana as a child of John I, Lord Mowbray.

John de Mowbray, 2nd baron, summoned to parliament from 26 August, 1307, to 5 August, 1320. This nobleman, during his minority, was actively engaged in the Scottish wars of King Edward I, and had livery of all his lands before he attained majority in consideration of those services. In the 6th Edward II [1313], being then sheriff of Yorkshire and governor of the city of York, he had command from the king to seize upon Henry de Percy, then a great baron in the north, in consequence of that nobleman suffering Piers de Gaveston, Earl of Cornwall, to escape from Scarborough Castle in which he had undertaken to keep him in safety. The next year Lord Mowbray was in another expedition into Scotland, and he was then constituted one of the wardens of the marches towards that kingdom. In the 11th of the same reign [1318], he was made governor of Malton and Scarborough Castles, in Yorkshire, and the following year he was once more in Scotland, invested with authority to receive into protection all who should submit to King Edward, but afterwards taking part in the insurrection of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, he was made prisoner with that nobleman and others at the battle of Boroughbridge and immediately hanged at York, anno 1321, when his lands were seized by the crown and Aliva, his widow, with her son, imprisoned in the Tower of London. This lady, who was dau. and co-heir of William de Braose, Lord Braose, of Gower, was compelled, in order to obtain some alleviation of her unhappy situation, to confer several manors of her own inheritance upon Hugh le Despencer, Earl of Winchester. In the next reign, however, she obtained from the crown a confirmation of Gowerland, in Wales, to herself and the heirs of her body by her deceased husband, with remainder to Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Hereford and Essex, and his heirs.
