741 (Research):Velma C. Morris, 86, of Holt Summit, Missouri died Wednesday, November 9, 2022, in the care of Fulton Manor, Fulton, Missouri. She was born February 7, 1936, to the late William Thomas Baker and the late Josephine (Burton) Baker. On June 4, 1955, Velma was united in marriage to Gerald (Jerry) Scott Morris. He was her husband for 67 years and survives her passing. Prior to this marriage, Velma married Lafe Earl Stone on September 29, 1952, who preceded her in death on July 27, 1953, in the Korean Conflict.

Velma often spoke of her love and working with horses in her younger years. She loved family. Spending family reunions with her brothers and sisters was important to her. She was a great cook, and her children loved her homemade hot rolls. She was a homemaker, plus working alongside her husband for many years, remodeling apartments and building new rental properties allowing them to retire in their forties. Jerry and Velma spent many years in their winter homes in Mission, Texas. They always gave God the glory for all the blessings in their life.

Velma is remembered for her strong belief in God and faithfulness to Jesus Christ; teaching, singing and behind the scenes work. She was part of a gospel singing group and enjoyed playing the dobro, piano and accordion. Velma and Jerry supported a missionary and participated in missionary work in Mexico, Ireland and a Native American reservation. They utilized their construction skills in building churches throughout the United States.

In addition to her husband, those left to cherish her memory are her son Gerald "Jerry" Scott Morris, II (Mary Ann) of Holts Summit; daughters, Vicki Lynn Roe (Daniel) of Fulton, Teresa Morris of Fulton, Cindy Morris of Holts Summit; sister, L. Elizabeth Smith; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Those that preceded Velma in death are her brothers, Elzie Baker, Theodore "Ted" Baker, Herman Baker and Wilford Baker; sisters, Lillian Tennyson, B. Maydell McKinney, Lorena Schmidt, Evelyn Wood, and Geraldine Riley.
