Daniel Forrest (6) Tull - brother of John Nicholas.

Married Sarah Baugh, daughter of Josiah Hatcher Baugh, on 6 Jan. 1805 Marriage not of record in Stokes, but she was named in the will of her father in 1822, Jackson Co., Ga. He was b. 1750 Va. and m.1 to Milly Shepperd who d. 1796, and he remarried in 1797 in Orange to Sarah Daniels; had a B.L.G. in Orange; moved to Stokes; moved to Jackson Co., Ga. in 1815. Daniel Tull moved from Stokes to Duck River, Bedford Co., Tenn. with several Forrests, Lovins, and others from Orange Co., N.C. in 1829 he came to Shelby Co., Ill.

His children are all in the funeral account ledger records of which I gave a copy to John E. Tull of Lonoke, Ark.. I have added county records, census records, church records, deeds and marriages to my information about Daniel Tull and his children. His tombstone is broken and deteriorated, but still legible in what is now called Bruce graveyard in Sec. 22 Windsor Twp., Shelby Co., Ill; also stone for his wife Sarah who died in 1841. Bruce graveyard, in 1829 was location of the Sand Creek Methodist Church.

Jamestowne Society Qualifying Ancestor:
Clay, John - A1706; born 1587, died by 1664/5, Charles City Co.: (Ancient Planter).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Captain John Clay came to America from England in February, 1613 on the ship "The Treasurer" and arrived in Charles City, Virginia. The first Clay to come to America! The e from his last name (Claye) was dropped when they came to America. His slave came with him, but his wife Ann did not come until August 1623 in the ship "Anne". His slave, William Nicholls, age 26, came in 1619 on the "Dutie in May. He came before John's wife did. John was granted 1,200 acres in Charles City, Virginia, on the banks of the James River. He had other land across the river. He had 4 children, and probably more.
Captain John Clay was called a Captain because he was the Grenadier Captain on the ship "The Treasurer" which was a licensed privateer.
John Clay, Ancient Planter, landed at Jamestowne, VA in February 1613 and settled in Charles City County, Virginia. He paid for the importation of 32 people on the good ship 'West' which arrived July 13, 1635. He was granted 1200 acres of land 13 July 1675 at the head of Wards Creek. His wife, Anne Nichols arrived from England, 10 years later.
Captain John Clay, the "British Grenadier" (hired soldier in the King's army) arrived in the new world in February 1613 according to the muster on the 'Treasurer'. The Treasurer, sent to protect the settlers in Jamestowne, was commanded and partially owned by Captain Samuel Argall, who was a brother of Elizabeth Argall Filmer, ancestress of Martha & Lucy Green Clay (wife of Henry Clay 1711-1764). It is stated in his muster that he (John Clay) was a planter before the government of Sir Thomas Dale. John Clay, Ancient Planter, landed at Jamestowne, VA in February 1613 and settled in Charles City County, Virginia. He paid for the importation of 32 people on the good ship 'West' which arrived July 13, 1635. He was granted 1200 acres of land 13 July 1675 at the head of Wards Creek. "Information from Howard Crose" Sent to me by Linda Crose in 2000.
Christian Crose can be found on the 1st cenus of 1782, List of Vincent Williams Gent, Hampshire Co, Va. show 11 members.
Christian disinherited Michael Crose his son because Michael married his sisters daughter (his niece), however Christian gave Michael's share to his children and grandchildren.
Solomon Crose (Christian's son) states that Christian and Barbara Crose were both born in Virginia.
The Crose Family pioneers started with Christian Crose as the partiarch of the family in Augusta county, VA. Then Frederick Co. Va. was formed from Orange and Augusta Counties in 1728-43. Hampshire Co. Va. was formed from Frederick Co. in 1754. Hardy Co.,Va. was formed from Hampshire Co. in 1785. The present Grant Co, WV was formed from Hardy Co. in 1866. Early records have Christian Crose in all of the above counties but yet he has lived on Patterson Creek near Williamsport, WV since the first record in 1757.
In year 1757, Christian Crose had in his household, his wife and three children, Elizabeth, Henry, and Philip. During the French and Indian Wars his family and his neighbors would travel over the mountains nine miles to Fort Pleasant now known as Fort Old Fields. The Shawnee Indians in 1754, the year Hampshire County was formed, were the indians who attacked the area between the Hardy County Area and the Monongalia River to the West.
In the spring of 1756, one of the marauding groups of indians, of about sixty or seventy warriors, said to be under the leadership of Shawnee Chief Killbuck, raided a home about 15 miles up the "South Fork of the river Wappatomake", killed and scalped one woman, a Mrs. John Brake, and took another, a Mrs. Neff, prisoner.
The log cabin that Christian Crose built and lived in was burned by the Confederates during the Civil War. Another log cabin was built and still referred to as the Croses Cabin. The second log cobin was torn down in 1973 and a mobile home rests on its foundation. The fresh water spring that was used by Christian Crose is still in use today.
Exerts from Christian Crose will Quote "Also my will is that my son Michael Crose shall have no part in his possession but that his children shall have his part of share which is to equal the share of each of the -- residue of my children." Michael Crose, it is assumed, married his niece Mary Ross against the wishes of his father Christian Crose.
Moses' first wife was Sarah Sallie Carney, with which he had 9 children. After Sarah died in 1868, Moses remarried in 1869 to Mary Wallace and he fathered four more children. Must consider possibility Mary Wallace had children from prior marriage.
Excerpt from 16 Aug 1932 text written by W.B. Russell age 82:
"Moses Rials, Morn May 11, 1804, died on his 86th birthday, May 11, 1890. Moses Rials married Sallie Carney, daughter of John Carney, son of Ikenably, an Indian Chief. John Carney's mother was American.
Grandma Sallie Carney had a sister, Pollie, whose posterity dead. She married a green. I remember visiting her. She lived on what is now known as the Pollie Green place, half a mile southeast of where Uncle John Rials and wife are buried (old Mismark Church). One daughter of John Carney married a Baugh, posterity lives in the counties of Smith, Simpson and Hines."
The 1870 census for Marion county, MS, Ancestry image 109, lists Moses Rials with wife Mary 37, and children Simon W 15, Joseph 14, Mahala 11 and Jeff Davis 10. This would put Simon's birth year as 1855, 7 years after Sarah Carney Rials 9th child when she would have been 47 years old. All of these children are proper age to be Mary's children.
