  • Notes
    • BARONY OF WEST (II) 1405

THOMAS (WEST), LORD WEST, son and heir, was born 1392; knighted on the eve of Henry V's Coronation, 8 April 1413; and had livery of his father's lands, 8 August following though he had not proved his age. He was in the King's retinue for the campaign of 1415 and fought at Agincourt, 25 October; a Commissioner of array in Hants, Wilts and Dorset, 26 May 1416. While at Calais, September 1416, he sailed under the Earl of Warwick in pursuit of a large Genoese carrack, 24 September; but in an accident on the following day, before battle was joined, he received mortal injuries from which, though landed in England, he died soon afterwards.

He married, before 2 July 1406, Ida, younger daughter and coheir of Amauri (DE ST. AMAND), 3rd LORD ST. AMAND, by his 2nd wife, Eleanor, daughter and heir of Richard LAVYNTON.[?] She, who was born 6 May 1392, died, apparently in childbirth and a little before him, before 6 November 1416, aged 24. He died s.p. as aforesaid 29 or 30 September 1416, also aged about 24. [Complete Peerage XII/2:521, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
