Research
His parents are believed to be James F. Lindsay and Martha Wright.
Details on his wife is scant, but purported to be Martha Hutchins born 1697 died 1770. They are believed to have at least two children, Samuel D. Lindsay born 1720 and Matthew Lindsay born 1725.
Mathew A. Lindsay appears in a mis-categorised military record (North Carolina, Revolutionary Pay Vouchers, 1779-1782) on 1 November 1780 in Hillsborough, Orange, North Carolina, United States. Follow the link for the document, and it reads: "State of North Carolina Orange County No. 47; This may Certify that as Commisioner for the County aforesaid I have Purchased from Mr. Mathew Lindsey one Fat Cow at the Prices ascertain in Spanish Milled Dollars by a Missive of Congress Dated 25th February 1780, Amounting in the whole to Eight & three quarters Spanish Milled Dollars..." Which was actually a receipt for selling a cow to the Orange County Government as opposed to Revolutionary Pay. Of course, the cow could have been meant for the use of the military. [1]
