Notes |
- BARONY OF FERRERS OF CHARTLEY (CP doesn't give numbers/recognize the title?)
SIR ROBERT FERRERS, or DE FERRERS, of Chartley, &c., son and heir, born in Staffordshire, 31 October 1357, or, more probably, 1359. On 23 July 1381 the King took his homage and fealty, and he had livery of his father's lands, and of those which Elizabeth, his mother, had held for life in dower or otherwise of his inheritance, his age having previously been proved.
He married, 1stly, after 16 September 1376, Elizabeth, who was his wife in January 1378/9. He married, 2ndly, Margaret, 4th and youngest daughter of Sir Edward LE DESPENSER, Lord of Glamorgan and Morgannwg [LORD LE DESPENSER], by Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Sir Bartholomew DE BURGHERSH, of Ewyas Lacy, co. Hereford, Stert and Colerne, Wilts, &c. [LORD BURGHERSH]. He died 12 or 13 March 1412/3, and was buried in Merevale Abbey: brass. His widow's dower was ordered to be assigned, 14 April 1413, and on the same day the manor of Bugbrooke, of which she and her husband had been jointly enfeoffed, was liberated to her, the escheator in co. Northants being ordered to take her fealty. She died 3 November 1415, and was buried in Merevale Abbey: brass. [Complete Peerage V:315-7, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
