    • BARONY OF DARCY OF CHICHE (I)

      THOMAS DARCY, only son and heir of Sir Roger Darcy (Esquire of the Body to Henry VII), by Elizabeth [living 22 September 1545], daughter of Sir Henry WENTWORTH, of Nettlestead, Suffolk, was born 1506; succeeded his father, September 1508; was knighted at Calais, 1 November 1532; Master of the Artillery in the Tower of London, and Gentleman of the Privy Chamber to Henry VIII, 1545; Vice Chamberlain and Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard to Edward VI, 1550-51, and Lord Chamberlain March 1550/1-53. On 5 April 1551, he was created BARON DARCY OF CHICHE, Essex. Nominated K.G. 18 September, and installed 6 October 1551. He was one of the 26 Peers who signed the letters patent, 16 June 1553, settling the Crown on Lady Jane Grey.

      He married Elizabeth, daughter of John (DE VERE), 15th EARL OF OXFORD, by Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Sir Edward TRUSSELL, of Kibblestone, co. Stafford. He died at Wyvenhoe, 28 June 1558, aged about 52, and was buried (as was his wife) at St. Osyth's Priory, Essex. [Complete Peerage IV:78, XIV:235, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
