Note: WRONG! AR is using CP VI:488-489 as part of its source on this. If one reads CP, they say John was son of a different William Heron and Isabel (last name unknown). The William Heron AR refers to (who did m. Isabel Scott, and was Elizabeth's grandfather), d. 10 Nov 1400, while John's father William Heron, d. 20 Jan 1427/8. This misled me for some time.

She [Elizabeth Heron] m. (disp. 11 July 1438) John, son of her guardian, William Heron aforesaid, by his wife Isabel. John was 10 or 13 years of age in 1428 and then in ward to the King. John and Elizabeth had livery of their lands in Northamptonshire and Elandshire from the Bishop of Durham in 140-41, and, having entered on the other lands of their inheritance without due livery, received the King's pardon in 1449. As "John Heron esq." he was appointed one of the Keepers of Bamborough Castle in 1438, assisting Sir William Elmedon, and in 1448 became sole Keeper on Elmedon's death; in 1459 John's son Roger became joint Keeper with him. He was thrice Sheriff of Northumberland, in 1440-41, 1451-52, and 1456-57. His authority in Redesdale is shown by a letter of apology addressed to him by the Prior of Durham in 1446; in 1455, as "Sir John Heron of Ford, kt.," he, with Robert Manners, "esq.," was thanked by the Privy Council for diligence in resisting the Scots' attack on Berwick. He filled many public offices in the district, being Commissioner of array, justice, &c., down to 1460. He fought on the Lancastrian side in the Wars of the Roses, and was slain at the battle of Towton, 29 March 1461. For having taken part in the execution of Richard, Duke of York, at Wakefield, 30 December 1460, he was attainted, and all his estates and dignities were forfeited, including the manor of Croydon, co. Cambridge, held by him jointly with William Tailboys. Robert Ogle was ordered to take possession of Ford Castle and to seize the body of Roger, Sir John's son and heir. The following post by Chris Phillips to soc.genealogy.medieval indicates that CP is incorrect in its ancestry for John's father William. Instead of William (d. 1427/8), son of William, son of William (d. 1379), it is William (d. 1427/8), son of John (d. 1408), son of John, son of William (d. 1379) (ie. the middle William is replaced by two Johns).

I have placed some draft corrections to the Complete Peerage article on Heron at:

These are the outcome of several months' discussion with Tony Ingham and Rosie Bevan.
I should make it clear that it was Tony who came up with the corrected genealogical scheme, and most of the supporting evidence from primary sources, and Rosie provided further evidence and discussion. I have tried to supplement the evidence from London sources as far as possible.
The main genealogical correction concerns the ancestry of John Heron (killed 1461), who married Elizabeth, daughter and heir of William Heron (d. 1425) (Sir William being the son of William (d. 1400), the son of Roger (d. by 1400), the eldest son of William (d. 1379)).
John was certainly the son of William Heron (killed 1427/8). CP identifies this William as a son of William, the second son of William Heron (d. 1379). But the evidence shows that he was in fact the son of John Heron (d. 1408), who was in all probability the son of John, the third son of William (d. 1379). (Just possibly John (d. 1408) was identical with William's son John, although this seems chronologically unlikely.)
