Notes - Dr. A.S. Baugh, of Polkville, Smith county, Miss., was born in Marion county, Miss., in 1832. His father, Bartholomew Baugh, was a native of Virginia, and his mother, who was Miss Nancy Carney, was a native of Tennessee. The former, who was born in 1787, left his native state when but a child, and located with his parents in Salem, N.C. He was educated in the city schools, and when he became of sufficient age he engaged in planting. Removing to Shelby county, Tenn., he there married and came on to Mississippi, some time during the twenties. He was a son of Josiah Baugh, also a native of Virginia, was a son of English parents, who came to America in early life.
