  !Source: Holbrook family history by Sarah Fulks, chapter one.He m Susannah Hargis. He m 2nd time to Mary. He appeared on the Surry Co, NC, 1774 list of Settlers. Wilkes Co, NC, was formed from Surry Co in 1777. In 1779 he received a land grant from the state of NC for 250 acres on the east prong of Roaring River and on the side of a muntain then known as Holebrook Mountain, named after him and his brother, John. His grant joined his brother's grant at or near the top of the mountain on the opposite side. By 1785 his acreage had increased to 410 acres.
