Notes |
- !Source: Jerry Ponder's "Life of Abner Ponder," p ix
Jerry notes that James Madison m Charlotte, last name unknown, often
written as
Chalot. They had at least four children. He spent some time in the
Tenn
Militia and in 1834 was a Captain in the 36th Regiment. In 1836 he
was elected
a Magistrate for Hickman County at only 26 or 27 years. He and his
family
moved to Ripley County, Missouri, about 1842, but he died by 1845,
leaving his
family to his wife to raise. Their oldest son Archibold Huston
Ponder raised a
family in Ripley Co, MO, but then moved to Truman, ARK. There is no
record of
Charlotte and the three younger children in Ripley County aftger the
Civil War.
There is a possibility that they did not survive the war.
