Notes - Mrs. Ella F. Varner
Mrs. Ella Floral "Flo" Varner, 78, of 7124 Ralston St., Raytown, Mo., died Saturday at Baptist Medical Center. She was born in Macks Creek, Mo., and had lived in the Raytown area since 1938. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Raytown and its Live Long and Like It Club. She and her husband, Bert L. Varner of the home, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Dec. 14, 1982. She also leaves two sons, Edwin D. Varner, Raytown, and Harold D. Varner, Napoleon, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Lorene Johnson, Independence, Mo.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday (March 7th) at the church: burial in Floral Hills Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7p.m. today at the chapel.
Bio: "Flo" was born in Edith, Missouri. Her father, Wiley, was 23, and her mother, Lula, was 22. She married Bert Lonzo Varner on December 14, 1922, in her small hometown at Pleasant Grove Church. When I asked her why she chose Grandpa Bert, she said, "Pickens were slim." They had three children during their marriage, listed below. Unfortunately, Violet "Irene" died very young because they couldn't afford the medical care. Flo died from heart issues and had battled breast cancer. She was a very talented crafts person. Grandma made the best green beans. She taught me a lot and dearly loved ALL her grandchildren.
