Notes - Dr. A. S. Baugh, of Polkville, Smith county, Miss., was born in Marion county, Miss., in 1832. His father, Bartholomew Baugh, a native of Virginia, left his native state when but a child, and located with his parents in Salem, N.C. He was a son of Josiah Baugh, also a native of Virginia, and a veteran of the Revolutionary war, who served under General Morgan, and at the battle of the Cowpens received a bullet in his thigh, which he would never allow to be removed, although it was near the surface, preferring to carry it as a memento of the days that "tried men's souls." He [Josiah Baugh?] was a son of English parents, who came to America in early life.
