I, THOMAS HARRIS OF THE UPPER PARISH OF ISLE OF WRIGHT COUNTYBEING SICK & WEAK OF BODY BUT OF PERFECT MIND & MEMORY THANKS BE GIVEN TO GOD THEREFORE I DO MAKE & ODAIN THIS MY LAST WILL & TESTAMNET COMMITTING MY SOUL TO ALMIGHTY GOD AND MY BODY TO HE EARTH AND AS FOR MY WORLDLY ESTATE WHICH HEREAFTER IS EXPRESSED I GIVE DEVISE AND DISPOSE OD THESAME IN THE FOLLOWING MANNEER AND FROM IMPRIMIS I GIVE AND BEQUEATH UNTO MY SON JOSHUA HARRIS FOUR PREWTER PLATES & TWO PEWTER DISHES. ITEM. I GIVE AND BEQUEATH TO MY DAUGHTER MARY TWO PEWTER AND FOUR PEWTER PLATES ITEM I GIVE AND BEQUEATH TO THE CHILD THAT MY WIFE NOW GOES WITH (BE IT BOY OR GIRL) TWO PEWTER DISHES AND FOUR PEWTER PLATES, ITEM I ALSO GIVE TO MY SON JOSHUA ONE PEWTER DISH AND ONE PEWTER PLATE MORE AND ONE GUN AND ONE PAIR OF PITOLLS AND HOLSTERS I GIVE AND BEQUEATHALSO TO MY SON JOSHUA MY PLANTATION AND ALL MY LAND BEING FOUR HUNDRED ACRES TO HIM AND HIS HEIRS AND ASSIGNS FOREVER EXCEPTTHE CHILD THAT MY WIFE NOW GOES WITH BE A BOY AND THEN I GIVE MY LAND AT THE OTHER SIDE OF HARBOURS FROM MY PLANTATION TO HIM AND HIS HEIRS AND ASSIGNS FOR. ITEM I GIVE AND BEQUEATH TO MY WIFE HANNAH THE ONE HALF OF THE RESIDUE OF MY ESTATE AND THE OTHER HALF OF MY ESTATE TO MY CHILDREN AFORESAID TO BE EQUALLY DIVIDED AMONGST THEM AND I LIKEWISE DO APPOINT AND CONSTITUTE MY WIFE HANNAH AND MY BROTHER HENRY HARRIS TO BEEXRS. Proof of his marriage to Judith Edwards is as follows: On Dec.7, 1758,
Mary Harris deeds all her interest in some land to Robert Tynes, "It
being the same land that John Saunders purchased of James Bragg, which
said land was formerly property of Robert Edwards who died intestate
leaving three daughters to whom the said land descended, one of which
said daughters intermarried with Thomas Harris and departed this life
leaving issue, Benjamin Harris her son and heir at law, who also
departed this life leaving issue the said Mary Harris, party of these
presents, his daughter and heir who inherited one third part of this
land." Wit. Joseph Bridger, Brewer Godwin, Bartholomew Lightfoot (D.Bk.
10, p. 31 & 32). In 1702 the magistrates and militia of Isle ofWight
prepared an address of layalty to Queen Anne. They stated that they
"resented the attempt made upon our Religion, Laws, and Liberty by the
late unaccountable action of the French King in owning and declaring the
pretended Prince of Wales to be the King of England." This address was
signed by the Militia Officers of the county. "Lieutenant Thomas
Harris" was one of the names signed. (17C, p. 69). Thomas witnessed
his uncle, John Harris' second marriage to Elizabeth Church. His wife,
Judith Harris, witnessed John Harris' will in 1712. (Will & Deed Bk. 2,
p. 556). After his death his widow, Judith Harris, married ----------
Clark. Her mother, Mary Boddie, in her will written Jan. 17, 1727, left
to daughter Judith Clark. (Bk. [3]
