Notes - Biography
Ilsabe (Unknown) Strauss migrated from Poland to United States.
Ilsabe was born in 1808. Her daughter named Konis (Konisberg) as her mothers birthplace. [1] She passed away in 1875.[2]
Konigsberg was Polish after the war with the Russian Empire in 1763, but pledged allegiance to Russia and was supplying arms to Poles, Russians and Lithuanians. At the time of her birth Konigsberg had became the capital of the newly formed province of East Prussia in 1773, which replaced the Province of Prussia in 1773. By 1800 the city was approximately five miles (8.0 km) in circumference and had 60,000 inhabitants, including a military garrison of 7,000, making it one of the most populous Prussian cities of the time. However, after war with Napoleon in 1806 it was home to an unstable population of refugees and revolution and demonstrations lasting for many years.
Elisabeth left Konisberg and met and married Gottfried in about 1828, probably near Paslek, Osztyn, Poland. Together they had at least 4 children and evidence supports this in the 1875 Kansas Census. [3] Mother Elizabeth is found in the eldest son's household of Gottfried age 46 and Henrietta (mis sp. Herther) age 44, together with their 5 children and Elizabeth's husband Gottfried at age 73, and two children Mary age 30 and Fred age 27 in the large household, in Kansas.
Their children were Gottfried born 1830, Johann born 1832 Mary Elizabeth born 1844, and Frederick B. born 1846
Research Note
Careful please. Often confused with another Ilsabe Schulz and Gottfried Strauss in Meseberg, Germany and their daughter born in 1928 Mary Elizabeth Strauss. Kansas Census and graveyard details contradict that that family as one that is clearly different. Thanks... ...Jim
