Notes |
- From Karen Cotter;
The Whiting family in its early lines is carefully set out in the Virginia Historical Magazine, Volume XXXII. The first of the Whitings from whom the family can be traced is Dr. Henry Whiting of Gloucester County, Virginia. He was a member of the Council of State and Treasurer of the Colony. As his name drops from the list of Councillors in 1693, it is probable that he died in that year. Dr. Whiting married twice, first, Aphia, widow of Richard Bushrod and second Elizabeth, surviving in 1729 and had issue:
Children of Henry Whiting and Apphia Unknown, widow of Richard Bushrod
1. Major Henry Whiting of Gloucester County
2. Colonel Francis Whiting of Ware Parish, Glouceser County, Virginia married Thomas Perrin
3. Thomas Whiting of Petsworth Parish, Gloucester married unknown
Children of Henry Whiting and Elizabeth Unknown
4. Elizabeth Whiting married John Clayton, The Botanist
5. Catherine Whiting married John Washington
Whiting Family published in Genealogies of Virginia Families, from Tyler's Quarterly Historical and Genealogical Magazine, Volume IV, page 460
