Shortly before his death, Major Lawrence Smith made a deed of gift to his son Charles, probably following the custom of providing for a son at the time of his marriage. Witnesses to the deed were THOMAS PEYTON, son of Major Robert Peyton; Colonel Peter Beverly, husband of Elizabeth Peyton, sister of Thomas Peyton, and sister of Charles Smith's wife, Dorothy Peyton.
