- BIOGRAPHY: John Griffin was born in Wales. He was one of the first settlers of Windsor, Hartford, Connecticut, and later one of the founders of Simsbury, Hartford, Connecticut. He was granted land to manufacture tar and turpentine at Massacco (now Simsbury) before the town was inhabited. He lived in Simsbury and was in partnership with Michael Humphrey.
