Notes - Sammie "Sam" Frank Ritter, 73, formerly of Junction City, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Flower Mound, Texas. He had Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Mr. Ritter was manager of engineering services for Mobil Oil Corporations's oil exploration efforts for 38 years. He also was a veteran of the Marine Corps and a private pilot.
He was born June 23, 1927, on a farm west of Junction City, the son of Samuel Otto and Dorothy Helen Duffy Ritter. He graduated from Junction City High School, where he had served as class president, in 1944. He earned a bachelor's degree at Kansas State University.
Mr. Ritter was a member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Lewisville, Texas, where he sang in the choir and formed the church vegetable gardens to benefit needy families.
He married Edna Baresel in December 1951. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Sammie Ritter and John Ritter, both of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Joanne Lee and Janette Vogelsang, both of Junction City; a brother, Bill Ritter, Junction City; and five grandchildren.
