- George Clayton was born circa 1723 in King & Queen county, Virginia, a son of John Clayton (abt.1690-bef.1759) and Ann (Read) Clayton (1708-1763).
Military
1776 Project
George Clayton performed Patriotic Service in North Carolina in the American Revolution.
George is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution for his Patriotic Service in which he furnished supplies in support of the Continental Army, operating in North Carolina.
Marriage
According to DAR records, George married Sarah Lambert (Dodson) Clayton (abt.1728-abt.1800). Application for membership in the Society of the DAR have been filed by the descendants of George's sons, Lambert Clayton, who married Sarah Davidson; and George Clayton, who married Margaret Thompson; and of his daughter Henrietta Clayton, who married Alexander Davidson.
George is found on the United States Census of 1780, living in Rowan County, North Carolina [3] George died in 1786, in Rowan, North Carolina. George, Lambert, Rachael, and Hannah are all named as children in George Clayton's Will. He named his wife Sarah and son-in-law, Alexander Davison, as Executors. [4]

George passed away circa 1786 in Rowan, North Carolina.

"This location of Lambeth Mill Creek was the North-bank of the Catawba River, South of Davidson's Creek and North of Beatty's Ford. Moses White was on the North, Wm. Reese on the South, Mail's Creek north on Catawba River, Young's Creek, nearby. Young and Nails were neighbors of George Clayton. Here, he and his family lived. The will of George Clayton probated in Rowan Co. 1786 bequeathed this land to his 2 sons, George Jr., and Lambert Clayton. They sold it 931791 to James Connor of Mecklenburg Co., N C (Book A., p 568. Iredell Co., N C)

George Clayton's Will
In the name of God Amen I George Clayton of Rowan County, State of North Carolina being in a sick and low condition but thanks be to God being in perfect mind and memory do make this my last will and Testament. And first of all I recommend my body to the dust and thee to be buried in a Christian manner at the descretion of my Executors; and my soul I recommend to God who gave it me nothing doubting but they shall unite again by the almighty power of God and as touching such worldly substance as it has please God to bless me with in this world, I leave and bequeath as follows (viz);
Item:I leave and bequeath to my beloved wife Sarah_____all my movable property except what I may here after bequeath during her widowhood, also her living of one third of my land during her life or widowhood.-
Item:I leave and bequeath to my beloved son George all my land on the north side of the Creek (viz) Lambeth's Creek.
Item:I leave and bequeath to my beloved son Lambird all my land on the south side of said Creek, the Creek to be the line betwixt them.
Item:I leave to my beloved Daughter Rachel five shillings
Item:I leave to my beloved Daughter Hannah five shillings
Item:I leave to my beloved daughter Henrietta five shillings
Item:I leave to my beloved daughter Anna five shillings
Item:I leave and bequeath to my beloved daughter Margaret five shillings
And lastly I institute and appoint my beloved wife Sarah Clayton and my beloved son in law Alexander Davison to be executors of this my last will and Testament.

The Will of Sarah Clayton
30th October 1800 Iredell County, NC
In the name of God Amen
I Sarah Clayton of Iredell County in the State of North Carolina being in a bad state of health but thanks to God Amen sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testment first I resign my soul unto God who gavest to me and my Body I recommend to the dust there to be buried on a Christian and Decemberent Manner at the descretion of my Exr .
And as touching my worldly estate I gave and Bequeath as follows vs.
I leave and bequeath unto my son George Clayton one armd Chair
I Leave to my son Lambert Clayton one pare stelyards
I leave to my daughter Henrietta Davidson one spice mortor
I leave to my daughter Hannah Neill one coffey pot,
I leave to my daughter Ann Cook one pewter Dish I leave to my Daughter Margaret Neill one set silver tea spoons
I leave to my grand son Lambert Oliphant one bed stopel home spun tick with the fturniture Belonging to it
I leave to my grand Daughter Ann and Betsey Neill all my (grey) gees.
I leave to my grand daughter Sarah Scott Neill one feather bed and furniture likewise five pounds in cash
I leave to my grand Daughter Sarah Clayton half Dozen Delf plates.
The remainder of my estate I leave to my daughter Margaret Neill after paying all my just Debts and funeral charges. And I likewise constitute my son-in-law Alexander Davidson and Win. Falls Exr of this my Last will and Testament Hereby publishing this and no other to be any last will and Testament in witness where of the said Sarah Clayton hath hereunto set her hand and seal this 30th day of October 1800.
