  Charles' second son, Thomas Dodson Sr., inherited a plantation "in a neck formerly called the Rich Neck with a hundred and fifty acres of land". Thomas would have been 24 years old at the time, about three years married to Mary Durham. Mary Durham was the daughter and probably a granddaughter of other Richmond County tobacco planters. Her complicated and confusing ancestry is discussed in the Hunt, Durham and Smoot section. According to Cobari, the Thomas Dodsons had nine children, all born in Richmond County: Thomas Dodson Sr was born on 15 May 1681 as the Second child of CHARLES DODSON SR. and Ann (surname unknown) in Old Rappahannock (Present day Richmond) County, Virginia. He had seven siblings, namely: Charles Jr., Lambeth Sr., Bartholomew Richard, William, Anne, Elizabeth, and John. He died on 1739/40 in Richmond County, Virginia. Thomas married Mary Durham, daughter of Thomas Durham Sr. and Dorothy (Maiden Name Unknown), in Fauquier County, Virginia. Thomas Dodson Sr signed his will on 17 Feb 1739 in Richmond County, Virginia. Thomas Dodson Sr and Mary Durham had the following children: * George Dodson - 31 Oct 1702 - 21 Oct. 1783 (married Margaret Dagard/Dagood) * David Dodson - 1703 - 28 July 1740 * Thomas Dodson, Jr. was born about 1707 in Richmond County, Virginia. He died before 21 Oct 1783 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Rose before 1725 in Richmond County, Virginia. He married Ellenor ? (Widow Sloan) about 1770. * Alice Dodson - 1711 - 1757 (married William Creel) * Mary Dodson - 5 Oct. 1715 - 1810 (married Mr. ? Oldham) * Greenham Dodson - 1718 - after 1777 (married Elizabeth, daughter of John Hightower) * Abraham Dodson was born in 1723. He died in 1768 in Fauquier County, Virginia (married Barbary Russell (b. 1729); Daughter Tabitha, born Abt. 1755, married Lt. Daniel Shumate before 1776) * Joshua Dodson Sr. was born in 1725. He died in 1793 in Surry, North Carolina (Baptist minister, born in Richmond, moved to Fauquier County, Pittsylvania in 1771, then to Stokes County, N. Carolina) * Elisha Dodson Sr. was born on 22 Feb 1727 in Richmond County, Virginia (NFPR). He died in 1791. * Winnie Dodson married William Scoggan Abt. 1763, who was killed at the battle of Yorktown. (Some say Winnie was a Johnston who had first married and divorced a Rev. William Dodson.)
