      Sir John Byron of Clayton, Lancashire & South Stoke, Lincolnshire (b. c. 1386/7, age 10 in 1397 - d. 1449/50),[1] was the s. & h. of:[2]

      Sir Richard Byron (d. 07 Jun 1397),[2][1]
      and Joan de Colwick of Colwick, Notts. & South Stoke (d. 08 Oct. 1426).[2]

      His father's premature death, left him as the ward of Sir John Ashton.[2]

      John was knighted before 1415,[1] and served as Sheriff of Lancashire from 1437 to 1449.[2]
      Marriage

      John was married to Margery (d. c. 1460),[1] dau. of Sir John Booth of Barton.[2] They had at least five (5) sons (1 dvp), and five (5) daughters.[1]

      Sir John Byron acquired lands in Blackley from Lord La Warre and in Gorton from Sir Robert Booth.[2]
      Events

      1415: settlement of lands in Droylsden was made on the occasion of the marriage of Sir John Byron's daughter Elizabeth with Thomas son of Sir John Ashton.
      1435: Sir John Byron did homage to Nicholas Thorley, one of the feoffees of Lord La Warre. [2]
      1437 - 49: Sir John Byron was sheriff of Lancashire; when he was succeeded by his son Nicholas, a grant of the reversion having been obtained in 1444.[2]
      1440: Sir John Byron made a settlement of his lands in the counties of Lancaster, Lincoln, and Northampton.[2]
      1442: Sir John Byron made a grant to his grandson, John Byron, said to be the son of his younger son Nicholas, who ultimately became heir to the whole of the Byron manors and lands. [2]
