Randy Whiting-John married twice, first to Sybil Collins the daughter of Edward and Martha (Baylie) Collins. During their 18-year marriage, John and Sybil had seven children. In 1673, the 38-year-old John married Phebe Gregson, daughter of Thomas and Jane Gregson of New Haven, with whom he had seven additional children. John graduated from Harvard College in 1653 at the age of 18 and several records state he preached several years in and around Salem, Massachusetts before moving to Cambridge. Other records indicate John moved to Cambridge Massachusetts shortly after graduation sometime in 1653/54. In 1660 he moved with his family "from the Bay" to Hartford, CT where he was ordained at the First Congregational Church. (Salem Town Records.)
According to journals taken from New England Families Memorial, there was a Rev John Whiting who served as the chaplain of the Hartford Colonial Foot forces during the King Philip's War in 1675.
