  Biography Second Wife of Elijah. Martha was born in 1853 and passed away at age 73 in 1926. Elijah W. Carney died young at age 49. After his death, his cousin John Spencer Carney helped out Martha Ann "Mattie" get by without the income lost due to Elijah's early death. Robert S. Carney writes to me in May 2021: "I went through an odd assortment of paper scraps left by our great grandfather John Spencer Carney. I found a few tax receipts ~1895 where he had paid land taxes for a Mrs. E. W. Carney who owned 40 acres."
