  John was born about 1735. He passed away in 1781. Will: December 29, 1781 Johnston Co., NC Probate: May 27, 1782 Johnston Co., NC John first marriage official or unofficial was abt 1772 to Ann Nancy Gray. Their child Anne Nancy Gray (Hayes) died about the time Anne did in 1781 at age 29. John Hays married officially or unofficially to Tabitha Coffee in about 1776. John and his wife Tabitha had three children - Nancy, Charles and Susannah. These three siblings married three BLACKMAN siblings. Nancy married John Blackman; Charles married Anne Blackman; and Susannah married Bennett Blackman. These three couples left the Sampson County, NC area as a group and migrated to Davidson County, TN about 1796. Some evidence of Tabitha returning to family home in Nordland, Norway where she passed away in 1782. But other speculation contradict this, so is unprovable. No mention when John died of Tabitha in his Will or in custody arrangements for his children.
