Notes |
- SIR HUGH DE HASTINGES, son and heir of Hugh and Margaret. By his charters, dated Friday after St. Botulph, 20 June 1376, he granted his manors of Norton, co. York, Elsing and Weasenham, Norfolk, and Monewden, Suffolk, to feoffees, in fee. He took part in the expeditions to Brittany, with the Earl of Salisbury in 1378, and with John Darundelle, Marshal of England, in 1379.
He married, before 1 November 1376, Anne, 3rd daughter of Sir Edward LE DESPENSER, Lord of Glamorgan and Morgannwg [LORD LE DESPENSER], by Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Sir Bartholomew DE BURGHERSH, of Ewyas Lacy, co. Hereford, Stert and Colerne, Wilts, &c. [LORD BURGHERSH]. On 16 June 1386 he gave evidence in the Scrope and Grosvenor controversy, and soon afterwards, on 8 or 9 July, accompanied the Duke of Lancaster in his expedition to Spain, where he died 6 November 1386. On 15 May 1387 the manors of Elsing, Weasenham, and Monewden, which he and his wife had held jointly at his death, were released to her. She married, as 2nd wife, Sir Thomas DE MORLEY, of Morley, Norfolk, Marshal of Ireland [LORD MORLEY], who died 24 September 1416, and was buried in the Church of the Austin Friars at Norwich. She died 30 or 31 October 1426. [Complete Peerage VI:355-7, XIV:372, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
