    Notes:

    BIOGRAPHY: Judge Landis attended the common schools of the city and afterwards Franklin and Marshall College to the junior year. On the death of his father he left college, and for six months clerked in the office of Hager & Bro. He then began the study of law under D. G. Eshleman, Esq., He was admitted to the Lancaster Bar on Sept. 8, 1877, at the age of twenty years. In 1880 he was elected city solicitor and was elected again in 1882. He served on the School Board of the city for six years. On April 10 1899 he was appointed by Gov. William A. Stone additional law judge as successor to the late Judge Brubaker, and afterwards, being nominated as candidate of the Republican party, was elected for a term of 10 years. Upon the retirement of Judge Livingston he was, on Feb. 13 1904, commisioned as president judge. In the fall of 1909 he was elected for a second term. He served as judge of the Second Judicial District for 15 years and was the ninth president judge since the adoption of the constitution of 1790. He was president of the commission appointed to build the Thaddeus Stevens Industrial School and president of the Board of Trustees. He was president of the A. Herr Smith Free Memorial Library of Lancaster City, Trustee of the Henry G. Long Asyllum for Aged Women, and trustee of the Millersville State Normal School. Family: no children.
