    From Genforum
Doing research in Meriwether Co. Ga. today and ran across a book called OLD FIRST DISTRICT O F MERIWETHER CO. GA. AND ITS PEOPLE complied by Mary J Gilbert and Charlotte Daniel. In it is quite a lenghty profile on The George Owen Family. George Owen was born in Virginia in 1771, the son of Doctor Thomas Owen. Jane Owen, the sister of George, married Harrison Musgrove in Pitsylvania Co. Virginia, April 16, 1782. Records indicate that the Owen family lived in that county. In the 1780's the Owens had moved to Wilkes Co. Ga. and George Owen, while living there, was given Power of Attorney, November 1792, by his brother Glenn Owen, Thomas Owen, and Harrison Musgrove, his brother-in-law, to act for them in a legal matter. (will abbreviate from here) Doctor Thomas Owen and some of his children moved to Greene Co. Ga. where in 1797 Thomas Owen,Jr. died. In 1805, Doctor Thomas Owen died, and in his will he names his son George as executor. The legatees of his extate were his daughters, Ann Rutledge, Jane Musgrove, and his sons, Glenn Owen and George Owen. Also mentioned were Mary McCain and her son William McCain. George then moves to Monroe Co in an area that later became Butts Co. then he moved to Meriwether Co. There's more that may interest you. If this seems to fit e-mail me and I'll send you a copy of the whole thing. Good luck, Sharron Nehring
