    Notes:

Elizabeth is probably buried in the Carney Family Cemetery on Stenberg Road in Whites Creek, Davidson County, Tennessee. Elizabeth appeared on 1830 census in Elijah's household but not on 1840 census; thus it is presumed she died 1830-1840, in what is now known as Whites Creek, Davidson County, Tennessee. Per: Glenda Carney On marriage bond, the Clerk wrote Elizabeth's middle name as "CEALS". Since Elizabeth probably could not read nor write, she was unaware her name had been spelled incorrectly. All subsequent references refer to her as Elizabeth "C." Goldsberry because of the Clerk's error. I am convinced her middle name should have been spelled 'SEALE" because that was the correct spelling of her Paternal Grandmother, ELIZABETH SEALE.

Elizabeth married Elijah CARNEY on 22 May 1806 in Davidson County, Tennessee. Elijah (son of John CARNEY and Unproven) was born in 1771 in North Carolina; died in 1851 in Davidson County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

A grave marker (round stone) for Polly Carney was seen by Leonard Lawson Carney for many years in Dry Fork Road cemetery on the hill by Denton's Chapel Methodist Church, Whites Creek, Davidson County, Tennessee. Polly was a sister of Elizabeth C. Goldsberry, wife of Elijah Carney, suspected brother of Vincent Carney. References: 1820, 1830 and 1840 Census - Davidson County, Tennessee Will of Vincent Carney Marriage Record Giles County, Tennessee Chancery Court Records "Polly" is buried in Vincent Carney Cemetery on Dry Fork Road, on hill above Denton's Chapel Methodist Church, Whites Creek, Davidson County, Tennessee. When Leonard Lawson Carney was a boy and a young man, he saw a carved round stone in the cemetery near the edge of the road with the name "Polly Carney" and dates on it. In 1981, that stone was no longer there or at least it was not visible when Leonard and Glenda walked a ways in the cemetery.

Mary married Vincent CARNEY on 7 Mar 1808 in Davidson County, Tennessee. EARLY PLANT AND SEED CATALOG PUT OUT BY EMH ON FILE. CAUSE OF DEATH:PNEUMONIA BURIAL:IT IS BELIEVED THAT ELIJAH AND SARAH ARE PROBABLY BURIED IN THE CARNEY FAMILY CEMETERY ON STENBERG ROAD, BUT THEIR HEADSTONES HAVE NOT BEEN LOCATED THE RESTORATION OF THE CEMETERY HAS NOT YET BEEN COMPLETED BY GLENDA CROSS AND HER FATHER. THE CEMETERY IS LOCATED BEHIND THE OLD EMH HOMESITE IN WHITE'S CREEK. STORY TOLD BY EMMA CLAY CARNEY:THERE WAS A MAN WHO WANTED TO BUY EMH'S PROPERTY AND "UNCLE LIGE" WOULD NOT SELL IT TO HIM. THIS MAN WAS SO DETERMINED TO OWN THAT PLACE, THAT HE DECIDED TO "HAUNT" IT AND MAKE TALK ABOUT THE PLACE HAVING A GHOST HAUNTING IT AND EMH WOULD THEN BE GLAD TO SELL IT TO HIM. SO ABOUT DARK, SOMETHING WHITE WOULD APPEAR OUT OF THE WOODS AND SCREAM LIKE A WOMAN. SEEMS THIS WENT ON FOR QUITE SOME TIME SO ELIJAH DECIDED TO GET HIS NEIGHBORS (MEN WHO OWNED DOGS) TOGETHER AND THEY WAITED (WITH THEIR DOGS) FOR THIS "GHOST" TO APPEAR AND WHEN IT DID, THE MEN AND DOGS STARTED AFTER IT. THE DOGS GOT SO CLOSE, THE MAN JERKED OFF THE SHEET AND CLIMBED A NEARBY TREE ! OF COURSE, THAT ENDED THE "HAUNTING". MISS EMMA SAID THE MAN'S NAME WAS JOE DUNN, BUT SHE DID NOT KNOW IF THIS JOE DUNN WAS RELATED TO MARY JANE DUNN, WIFE OF JOSEPH ELIJAH CARNEY, ELIJAH'S SON. ELIJAH'S LOG CABIN BURNED COMPLETELY TO THE GROUND. THE FIRE STARTED FROM SPARKS FROM A WOOD COOK-STOVE CATCHING WOOD SHINGLES ON THE ROOF AFIRE. PER EMMA:ONE TIME SARAH FRENSLEY CARNEY, WIFE OF EMH WAS SICK AND IN NEED OF MEDICAL ATTENTION SO A DOCTOR WAS SUMMONED. EMH WAS DEEPLY CONCERNED ABOUT HIS WIFE'S HEALTH AND FELT IT WAS TAKING THE COCTOR TOO LONG TO COME, SO HE SENT ANOTHER PERSON TO FETCH HIM. WHEN THE DOCTOR FINALLY ARRIVED, EMH WAS OUTSIDE IN THE YARD WAITING FOR HIM. THE DOCTOR APPEARED TO BE IN NO HURRY AND UPON APPROACHING EMH, OFFERED HIS AHND IN FRIENDSHIP AND EMH PUT BOTH HANDS BEHIND HIS BACK AND SAID, "DON'T TAKE TIME TO SHAKE MY HAND. YOU'RE NEEDED IN THE HOUSE"!!! THIS WAS SAID WITH COOL BLUNTNEWSS. HE WAS ANGRY BECAUSE THE DOCTOR HAD TAKEN SO LONG TO COME TO HIS WIFE'S AID AND WAS IN NO MOOD FOR FRIENDLINESS. HE WAS ONLY CONCERNED WITH THE DOCTOR TAKING CARE OF HIS WIFE, AND MADE NO BONES ABOUT IT. EMH CARNEY WAS KNOWN TO BE A VERY BLUNT-SPEAKING MAN !

Sara Goldsberry's will was written on September 1, 1858 and signed with her mark.
Ironically it is also witnessed by Thomas and Andrew Reed!
The will was proven on what looks like Dec. 4, 1865.( Not sure abt the 6 in 1865 yet )

She first says she has an interest in her lately deceased brother James Goldsberry's estate ( Giles Co. ) Then she is basically leaving everything to her deceased brother Henry Goldsberry's children who are Martha A. Goldsberry, Robert W. Goldsberry, Sarah J. Goldsberry, Susannah A. Goldsberry, Elizabeth ( I??) Goldsberry and Maria J. Goldsberry. She appoints her "friend" Robert Robert W. Goldsberry as executor.

Amasa Campbell married Maria ( according to his testimony) when she was 20 years old. " By consent Amasa Campbell was recalled (from the Civil War) and states that his wife Maria Jane Campbell died in September 1874 leaving behind one child surviving her named Adella Catherine about 3 months old at the death of its Mother. The child died on the 25th November 1874 having neither brother or sister living at the time of it's death." June 15, 1875.

According to testimony of Sarah J. Goldsberry, July 20, 1875, "...my sister Mariah J. Campbell died September 25, 1874 having her husband and one child named Delia Catherine...the child died 25th of November 1874 just 2 months after the death of it's Mother."

Martha A. Cherry & als Vs. A. J. Reed Adm
On June 1866 a Bill was filed in Chancery Court of Giles County. James Goldsberry died intestate in 1858 leaving surviving sisters Martha Cherry and Sarah J. Goldsberry, his neices: Martha A., Sarah J., Elizabeth S., Mary B., Susannah A., Moriah J. and her husband Amasa Campbell. A nephew Robert Goldsberry died during the Civil War at Colombus, Mississippi in 1862. Mary B. Goldsberry and Moriah Campbell died in 1874. Moriah J. Campbell left a daughter Dilia Catherine about three months old surviving. She died November 24, 1874. The James Goldsberry home was about three miles from Prospect. Sarah J. Goldsberry died testate 1865 leaving her propert to her neices, children of her deceased brother Henry.

I'm thinking that the name Dilia could be Delilah?? Especially since Maria is spelled Moriah.

Mariah married Amasa CAMPBELL on 21 Feb 1866. Amasa died on 4 Feb 1927 in Giles County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
