Notes:

My great grandfather George worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad from Jan. 10, 1877 until he retired in 1927. He was the engineer who engineered one of the first steam locamotives, and was the engineer of the train that brought President Taft through California.

Grandpa had two boys and two girls. He worked as Postmaster in Oakland, Ca for many years and retired as such. He was a very quite and dignified man. He would buy a new Buick, sometimes, every year. My dad bought Buicks most the time too. He loved his cabin in Grizzly Flats. He liked to fish.

Elmer married Luraine Marie BURKE on 23 Feb 1907 in San Rafael, Marin, California. Luraine (daughter of Davis Chace BURKE and Kate M THOMPSON) was born on 3 Aug 1887 in California; died on 14 Apr 1970 in Oakland, Alameda County, California; was buried in Oakland, Alameda County, California. Dad loved the mountains, and especially loved to go to his cabin at Grizzly Flats, which is 25 miles east of Placerville, Ca. Dad and his father built the cabin in about 1944. He had bought 15 acres from Elwood Morrey. His father and two sisters and one brother also had cabins up there. Dad liked to write and eat, and also liked his whiskey and beer. He enjoyed people, but also liked times of solitude. We would go up to grandpa Jefferis's cabin in the evenings and play poker. Dad died of a heart attack in 1968.
Dad worked for Hercules Powder Co. in Hercules, Ca, for 25 years. He was a supervisor, first for Black Powder during WWII, that is why he didn't have to go into the Army, because the government needed black powder for the war effort.

Notes:

I always called David Uncle or Laddie. He was a nice man. He worked in the Oakland Post Office where my grandfather Jefferis was Postmaster. He had a nice log cabin up at Grizzly Flats, not far from our cabin. His wife was Annita and they had one daughter, Collett.

Mart was 14 months older than I was, and he and I were always fighting. He was sent to a Catholic Boys school when he was about 12. He would hop trains at that age and go all the way to Oregon. He was quite adventerous and rebellious. He spent most of his life in one prison or another throughout California and other state. He almost got killed in Levensworth Prison in Kansas. He was an alcoholic and would steal things. He enjoyed playing tennis while in prison. He died while he was out of prison. He was living with a lady at the time, and seemed to be doing pretty good for him. He loved dogs and was a good person, who just never found his way. He never really worked for a living. Mom and I would travel on bus to visit him in the various prisons he was at. We loved to be up at Grizzly in the summer and would explore together as children.
