    BIOGRAPHY: There were 3 sons of John Ellsworth that left England because of religious persecution. Arthur came to America about 1681, and settled in North Kingston, RI. An extensive genealogy of his descendants has been published, entitled, "Arthur Aylsworth and His Descendants in America" with notes History and genealogy, relating to the family from early English records, by Horace Elhanan Aylsworth, MD, Roseville, Warren Co., IL; Edited by James N. Arnold, Editor of Narragansett Historical Register. Printed by the family. Edition 250 copies. Providence, RI, 1887.

    BIOGRAPHY: There were apparently three brothers, sons of John Ellsworth, that left England for religious persecution. Theophilus, the eldest, fled to Holland and spelled the name Elsvort, or Elswort, after the Dutch pronunciation. He later came to New York City, where many of his descendants lived as late as 1840

    BIOGRAPHY: There were apparently three brothers, sons of John Ellsworth, that left England because of religious persecution. Josiah was the 2nd to leave. Josiah's Name first appears on the Windsor Town Records in connection with his marriage; and, the same year he bought a house and lot south of the Rivulet (and near the Old Mill) on what was afterwards known as the Gillet place, opposite the residence of the late Hon. N. H. Barber. In 1655 he bought the property later known as the Chief Justice Ellsworth place. He was a juror in 1664; made freeman 21 May, 1667. Children are listed in the Ellsworth Genealogy and the Mathew Grant Record.

    Josiah married Elisabeth HOLCOMBE on 16 Nov 1654 in Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut. Elisabeth (daughter of Thomas HOLCOMBE and Elizabeth FERGUSON) was born on 16 Nov 1634 in Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts; was christened in in Windsor, Hartford, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America; died on 18 Sep 1712 in Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut; was buried in Sep 1712 in Granby Cemetery, Granby, Hartford, Connecticut.
