    Notes:

Apparently Ludwig Riedweil Sr. and Barbara Bchler had four children before they came to America: FHC film #247602
1 Johann Michael Riedweil chr. GR 22 Mar 1733
2 Johann Riedweil born GR 1 May 1737
3 Johann Ludwig Riedweil born GR 4 Dec 1740
4 Anna Margretha Riedweil born GR 18 Feb 1745
5 Jacob was born in America Oct. 1751
6 John was born in America abt 1756
The John B. 1756 is sometimes confused with the above metioned Johann B. 1737. Our best guess is that Johnannes B. 1737 either stayed in Germany or died before or during the trip to America.
the christening record of Maria Dorothea Grimm, daughter of Jacob and Magdalena Grimm in May 1729, it lists Johann Ludwig Riedweyl as an apprentice weaver, single, and son of Friedrich Riedweyl (Doc. #6). Also in christening record of his second child Johannes, Ludwig Sr. is listed as a yarn weaver, Doc.# 3 but elsewhere, as just a weaver.

I cannot translate "Ehel:" properly without my dictionary,
it means that they were born by a marriaed couple.
The faint cross over the record would indicate that somebody else noted later that the child died (soon?), that occurs rather often, together with a year. But I'm not sure about this, and the write put a question mark also.
The name RIEDWEIL is rather clear, except that in the
    signature it's RIDWEIL.
    My [Dr. Fisher] picture is:
Friedrich = grandfather of the newborn son
Johann Ludwig = father, Barbara = mother
Johann Ludwig = son, born 4-Dec-1740, bapt. 8-Dec (this record)
Anna Apolonia = bapt. witness, aunt of the newborn

1749 - In the summer of 1749, a man by the name of Landenberger of Ebingen, who made frequent trips between Germany and America, brought back favorable letters from Hans Balthass Bitzer and Matthaeus Mautte. According to a report in 1749 by Mayor Venninger of Lauffen, preserved at Ludwigsburg, the letters are said to have "made such an impression among different families, that they even now appear to be intent on leaving next Spring." This resulted in the large Lauffen emigration of 1750, including some on the ship "Osgood."
1750 - Germany, Pfalz, Bayern, Immigrant's surname: READWILE Immigrant's given name(s): Johann Ludwig
Ship name: Osgood U.S. arrival date: 29 SEP 1750
Port: Philadelphia, PA Place of origin: Res: Freckenfeld, Pfalz, Bayern, Germany late of Cowes Source: Thirty Thousand Names of Immigrants, by I. Daniel Rupp
1750 - PA, Philadelphia 29 Sept., The ship 'Osgood' arrived in Philadelphia from Rotterdam, last from Cowes; William Wilkie, Captain, listed 480 [ or 180 "not sure"] passengers. Ludwig Readwile and Joh. Michael Rietweill were among those passengers.
Ludwig RIETHWEIL and his family most likely were taken to the court house where he then made his mark on the Oath of Allegiance and qualified, as well as his son Michael who was able to sign his name. Since Michael was over the age of 16, he had to qualify. The other children were under the age of 16, so were not required to qualify. Michael signed his name Rietweill to the document. Ludwig did not sign the document, but made his mark "LRW" and the spelling of the surname as "Readwile" is most likely a phonetic one by the court clerk.
1760 - 15 Aug 1760 Lodwick REDWINE of Granville County, North Carolina, for fifty pounds proclamation money, purchased from William Meadows of Orange County, 233 acres located eastward of Michael Peeler's and on the branches of Shillons (now Shelton's) Creek. The land adjoined Slaughter and Matheas. Lodwick owned this land when he died as it is included in the inventory of his estate. Source: Granville Co NC Deed Book H, p 364 (per Martha Redwine)
1764 - Lodowick Redwine appeared on the Granville Co NC tax list. This is the first tax list he has been located in. He paid one poll. The list was made by Col. Harris.
1766 - Lodwick Redwine was listed on the tax list of Granville Co North Carolina. The list was made by John Thomas and the number of polls paid has been blurred and not readable.
1767 - Lodwick Redwine was on the tax list of Granville Co NC when he paid one poll.
1767 - NC Granville Co. deed book H (1765-1826) page, 364 Lodwick Redwine of Granville Co. records land deed August 15, 1767 from William Medows of Orange Co. NC.
1768 - Lodwick Redwine was on the tax list of Granville Co NC as shown in tithables taken by Robert Harris. He paid two polls which included son Jacob Redwine shown. The law at the time in North Carolina set the white male poll at ages 16 and upward. Jacob would have reached age 16 in October 1767.
1769 - Lodwick Reetwile appeared on the Granville Co NC tax list and paid two polls. Michael Redwine appeared same list. 1769 - NC, Granville Co., tax list Lodowick Redwine 2 whites.
1770 - Lodwick Redwine was on the Granville Co NC tax list, paying two polls.
1771 - Ludwick Redwine appeared on the Granville Co NC tax list and paid three polls. This would indicate the youngest son John had reached the age of 16 years.
1772 - 22 Feb On page, 329 Granville County Unregistered Wills Lewis RIETHWEIL (signed in German Ludwig) wrote his will in Granville County naming sons Lewis, Michael, Jacob, John, and daughter Margaret Peeler, wife of Michael Peeler. The youngest son, John, was underage at that time. His wish was that son John was to serve his brother Jacob but for one year, then to be declared free. as of 1785 The original will, is in the care of the Granville County clerk of the Superior Court. The Will was filed in 1772.

1772 - NC, Aug The inventory of Lodwick Redwine was recorded into Granville County Court in August 1772 which means he died between 22 Feb 1772 and Aug 1772. The inventory included the 233 acres of land he purchased in 1760. In this document, his name was shown with three different spellings, Lodwick Redwine; Lewis Riethweil; & Lodowick Redwine.
Obviously, the son named John who was underage in 1772 was not the same Johannes who was baptized 5 May 1737. In Mittelberger's diary, he said there were no less than 32 that died on the 'Osgood.' Freckenfeld belongs in the federal German state of Rheinland-Pfalz. Freckenfeld belongs to Kreis Germersheim, RegBez Rheinhessen-Pfalz, Land Rheinland-Pfalz The AGS is 07334005. The ZIP code is 76872
Following are some variations found while searching the name Redwine: Raedwine, Radewynde, Radewint, Radwin, Ritwell, Redewinus, Readwile, Rietweill, Redewinus, Redewyne, Redwin, Redwine, Redwile, Reedwine, Reetwhile, Reichwein, Reitweild, Reitweil, Rietwell, Ritwell, Riethweil. As the Palatine population grew in England, the Crown ordered a census made of these people. This inventory is preserved in the British Museum Library, London, England. It is from this inventory taken at Walworth, 27th of May, 1709, that we find Redwines. Lists of Germans from the Palatinate Who Came to England in 1709 are: Frederick Ritweil, age 32, wife, son age 2, Lutheran; and Jacob Ritweil, age 22, single, Lutheran. On Jan. 1710, a ship of Palatines sailed to America, arriving in Va. 13 weeks later. The Palatines were shipped across the Albermarle Sound to the Neuse River and placed on the south side of a point of land along the Trent River. There were also other ships coming to the Colonies during this great migration period of 1710- 1712, however, no document was found of Jacob and/or Frederick sailing to America. Source : "Ancestors and Descendants of John and Sarah and other Redwines," by Martha Redwine Nelson.
Other passengers on the ship "Osgood" included the following: From Lauffen were Ludwig Bitzer, Rudolph Christe, Jacob Koenig, Johann Matthias Spohn, Christian Stotz, Hans Balthass Stotz, Ludwig Stotz, and Johannes Wolfer. Hans Jerg Gutekunst was from Nagold. There was also a passenger by the name of Georg Becker who might possibly have been a relative of Barbara, wife of Johann Ludwig RIETHWEIL. There was a man named Johannes Seyl, but it is not known if this name might have been Seyler. If so, there might be a relationship to Peter Seyler whose son was baptized in 1755. Johann Michael Riethweil and his wife Christina were sponsors. Source 1: "Pennsylvania German Immigrants, 1709 - 1786"
"Probably most of you on the REDWINE list already have viewed the original Granville Co NC records, but it is interesting to see the different spellings in the same documents. I have some copies of original records of Granville Co NC which show the various spellings of the name.

I thought perhaps this might help to answer any doubts one might have. Seeing different spellings in the original document (and sometimes even different on the same page) should erase any doubt that Ludwig appears as Ludwig/Lodwick/Lodowick/Lewis and RIETHWEIL/REDWINE in the Granville Co NC records." 1732 - Germany, Freckenfeld 22, March. Johann Michael Redwile was born. This is from the Bible record of Michael Jr. and Daniel L. and these two Bibles may in fact be the same. Source: A copy of the Bible page of what I guess is from the Bible of Michael Redwine Sr. son of Lewis Redwine Sr. or a extract of some type of what would have been in his Bible. Most of the names recorded on the copy of the Bible page were names for the family members of Johann Michael Riethwiel Sr. also known as ( Michael Redwine Sr.) I also think what I have seen and have in hand is a copy of a hand made extract of the original Bible of Michael Redwine Sr. or the records that it contained.
1733 - Germany, Freckenfeld 22, March. Johann Michael Riedweyl was baptized 22 Mar 1733. This would have been on his first birthday. He was listed as the son of Ludwig Riedweyl and Barbara. Source: Records of Lutheran Church, Freckenfeld, Germany as extracted by the Church of LDS of Salt Lake City, UT.
1750 - PA, Philadelphia 29, Sep., Ludwig Rietweil Sr. and his family arrived in Philadelphia. They were taken to the court house where he then made his mark on the Oath of Allegiance and qualified to enter the country, as did his son Michaelwho was able to sign his own name. Since Michael was over the age of 16, he had to qualify. The other children were under the age of 16, so were not required to qualify. Michael signed his name Rietweill to the document. Ludwig did not signthe document, but made his mark "LRW" and the spelling of the surname as "Readwile" is most likely a phonetic one by the court clerk. 1755 - 20 April, Johann Michael Riethwiel and his wife Christina were both sponsors to Johann Michael, son of Peter and Anna Barbara Seyler, in what is now St. Luke's Lutheran Church, five miles east of Hellertown, in Williams Township, Northampton Co., PA. 1760 - 27 Aug John Michael Redwine secured a Land Entry from John Earl Granville's agents for 700 acres of vacant land on both sides of Adcock's Creek in Granville Co,. The document begins with the name John Michael Redwine and is signed Samuel Benton for Michael Redwine.

The Bible I am working from is known to have once belonged to Martha Jane Redwine daughter of Daniel L. Redwine. On the copy we see it appears to this researcher to have been written in the same hand. If the person copying this had no first hand information as to what the name were that she copied or what they should have been or the way the letters of the time were formed this could be how the name Saloma could be transcribed or extracted as Polma or some other form of it.
The Daniel Redwine Bible lists the birth of Michael Redwile as the same as this copy of his Bible record does and that is 22 Mar 1732. Source: "Ancestors and Descendants of John and Sarah and other Redwines," by Martha Redwine Nelson.

Bear in mind that as far as I know to this date, no source has been found for the KINGSLEY or WALTER marriage.
I have no source or proof that the children of Lewis Redwine Jr. that I display are correct. I have removed the child I did display named Hut. This serves as a note that there could be a child by that name.
The child named Wilis that I display could be a short or nickname for William. The date of birth on the two names are not the same. I don't know if those dates are correct or guessed at. They could be the same person but I have seen these two names in the same family as being seperate people. For now I will display Willis as a child of LRJ.

MILITARY: Soldier in the Revolutionary War, Pvt NC, Private in Capt. John Johnston?s Company, Col. John Collier?s Regiment, under the command of Brig. Gen. John Butler; was discharged 22 Dec 1780. The story is told that Jacob said that when he got out of the army he had nothing in the world but a blue jug. 1768 Lodwick Redwine was on the tax list of Granville Co., NC as shown in tithables taken by Robert Harris. He paid two polls which included son Jacob Redwine shown. The law at the time in NC set the white male poll at ages 16 and upward.
Jacob would have reached age 16 in October 1767.
1772 - NC, Granville Co., 22 Feb 1772 Lewis RIETHWEIL (signed in German Ludwig) wrote his will in Granville County naming sons Lewis, Michael, Jacob, John, and daughter Margaret Peeler, wife of Michael Peeler. The youngest son, John, was underage at that time. His wish was that son John was to serve his brother Jacob but for one year, then to be declared free.
Obviously, the son named John who was underage in 1772 was not the same Johannes who was baptized 5 May 1737. It is most likely the first son named Johannes had died (perhaps before leaving Germany, or on board ship, or after arrival in America) and the same name was given to another son born later. That was not an unusual custom and happened often. In Mittelberger's diary, he said there were no less than 32 died on the 'Osgood.'
1777 - NC, 25 Jan 1777 Jacob Reitweil and John Rietwel of Granville County sold 233 acres eastward of Michael Peelers on a branch of Shelton's Creek, being part of a large survey taken up by William Meadows and adjoining Slaughter. Proved in

The marriage to Jacob Redwine is recorded GA, Coweta Co, Book C, page 539. Jacob REDWINE to Mrs. Sarah Stamps 31, Jan 1865.
This would make the marriage 25 years after Jacob (s/o Ludwig) had died. Since Jacob Jr. didn't die until 1866, I guess he could have married her in 1865.

    David:
my g aunt Rebecca Jane Kleckley Derrick of Hampton, Henry County, GA married Jacob Alonzo Redwine 22 Feb. 1877 according to Henry County Marriage Book-Ga State Archives.
son of James Oliver Redwine Katie Elizabeth Hathcock
son of Jacob Redwine II-Nancy Trimble both are buried at Mt. Gilead Methodist Church, Fairburn Rd., S Fulton Cty., Ben Hill, GA
    son of Jacob Redwine SR
This family has disappeared with noone knowing anything about them. Were they renegades or something? Were they deadbeats? Did they not have any association with the Redwine family? What is going on? How can family live and go to church with each other and then just poof-disappear? Nancy Trimble Redwine was a charter member of Mt. Gilead Methodist Church, 1824.
I just do not know or understand.
    Thanks for a reply.

    David:
Everyone knows all about these Redwine's. Noone seem to know about James Oliver Redwine-son of Jacob Redwine and his family. James Oliver married Elizabeth Hathcock and from there all seems to be lost. The Redwine that I am searching for is Jacob Alonzo Redwine who married Rebecca Jane Kleckley (Sarah) Derick/Derrick in Henry County, GA. This family was visiable enough in Fulton County to have a road named for them. They lived on this road. Part of this road is now abandoned and you are unable to access it by car. You are able to walk down it to a point and even the drive that led to Andrew Redwine's, son of Jacob Alonzo, house is still there. Redwine Lake is still there and people park on Camp Creek Parkway and fish in it. The other part of this road leads into the city of EastPoint, GA. No-one lives on the closed part of this road and no one seems to know who owns the property.
Noone knows where this family or any of their descendents. They are just names on paper. Even the families that still attend Mt. Gilead Methodist Church either do not know or are unwilling to talk about this family. Some are even related to them. One woman Fannie Kate Cash is the cousin of Andrew Redwine, son of Jacob Alonzo, g son of James Oliver. Their grandmothers were sisters. How do families disappear? What happens to their descendents? Why are relatives reluctant to talk about them? Shirley

In the war with Britain in 1814, John Marshburn Redwine served as a private in Captain Joseph Whorton's company in the Jackson County, Georgia Militia. His service is listed as January 5 - February 15, 1814. This per information found in the Redwine family file at the Georgia Archives.
In Deeds of GA, Franklin Co., 1784-1826, by Martha Acker, I find these entries concerning John Marshburn Redwine: "DEED dated Franklin Co., 4 Nov. 1817, rec. 4 Aug. 1824, from William Hall of afore said to JOHN REDWINE of same. In cons. of $25, conveys 71 ac. in Franklin Co. on north side of Rice Crk., adj. John Groover and said Hall. Wit: Joshua Hearne, Andrew Shelnut. Sworn to by Hearne before Richard C. Wit: John McFarland, Joshua Hearne. Sworn to by Hearne before Richard C. Bond, J.P. 17 April, 1824."
It should be noted that the Index to the 1820 Georgia census has John Redwine living in Madison County. This is more that likely correct as John may have had land adjoining Madison and Franklin counties.
In 1830, John Redwine is living in Coweta County, Georgia. he died there in the city of Palmetto on November 25, 1841.
The middle name of John came from the files of Becki Redwine.

    Obituary of John D. Parker
"Brother John D. Parker, a venerable father in Israel, was removed from the church militant to the church triumphant on the 29th of March 1878, in the 80th year of his age.
In early life he professed religion and joined the M.E. Church, and from this time to the day of his death he continued to manifest the desire of salvation by doing "no harm", and "by doing good," both to the bodies and souls of men, so much so, that he was a model Christain. He loved the Church of Christ, especially the branch of it to which he belonged. He loved her institutions and ordinances.
For over fifty years he held the office of class leader, and was for the most of the time was a steward. As a class leader, he was very efficient, watching closely after the spiritual interest to those committed to his care, and if any one of his class should in any way violate the laws of the church, or go astray in any way, he set himself to work at once to restore such a one; and if by prayers and exhortations he failed to restore him, he at once brought him before the church - always with loving kindness. With dram drinkers or drunkards in the church, he had little patience. As a steward he was faithful, discharging his duty acceptably. He made it a rule for many years at the fourth quarterly conference to ask, "What is our church behind?" and if there was any deficiency, would invariably foot the bill. As a citizen he was highly esteemed. Being a man of sound judgment, his neighbors sought his counsel in almost all of their differences; and his godly counsels were almost invariably heeded and obeyed. In the pursuits of the secular business of life he was diligent and strictly honest. By the strict observance of the "golden rule," he but seldom, if ever, had a bitter feeling against him, although his business caused him to have to deal, more or less, with all classes of men. He was blessed with almost uninterrupted health, being very robust and active up to some five years past, when his physical and mental powers began to give way. For the past two years he had but little mind left; but in all of his mental deficiency he never forgot the Church of God - would often go to the failed to go on the regular church day and seemed conscious that his time was drawing previous to his death he spoke of his approaching before any one knew that he was any worse than returned to him, and he talked with his son of to heaven. Thus passed away this holy man, afflicted wife and several children, brothers and sisters to mourn their loss, all of whom have our sympathies"

A stampless letter was sold on the internet (e-bay) having a circular date stamp for GAINESVILLE Ga SEP 30, a handwritten 10 cent rate, and is addressed to Mr. Lewis Parker, Parkers Store, Franklin, Geo. [Georgia], and is a lengthy two and a half page 'Dear Bro' letter written by John Parker. The headline is Gainesville 26th Sept 1838.
    Some abstracts:
"Tomorrow morning I expect to start to the Wesley Manual labour School in Houstin County and have not time to fill up an of my letter with apologies ..."
"My family are well and my children grow very fast and learn very well ..."
"I shall nearly make a support independent of my school and for that I still get one thousand dollars and the tuition of my own children. You say why then do I think of leaving and going so far down the country ..... suffice it to say I do not know that I shall go, but I have been offered a fine salary and many other inducements."
"I am pleased with the manual labour plan of education and believe it will soon be the popular system of education."
"You enquired what I know of Uncle Daniel Redwine, I have no very recent word from him ..."
"One word to Franklin, My Dear Son, my heart was glad we I heard you had joined the church and now while I write about it my eyes swim with tears. You have done exactly right."
"Now Franklin you must read a great deal, pray a great deal."
"Bro. Lewis tell all the boys not to think hard of me for not writing to them for there is not one thing in my heart but the good Lord will approbate towards you all and tell them not to do as I do but as I ought to do."
Condition of the letter rates average, some separations along the small folds, tear opposite the seal area. As usual with stampless letters, after writing on one or more sides of a sheet of paper, the letter was folded several times and mailed.

    LAST WILL OF LEWIS PARKER
    STATE OF GEORGIA, HART COUNTY
In the name of God, Amen.
    I. Lewis Parker of said state and county, of advanced age and knowing that I must shortly depart this life, deem it right and proper both as respects my family and myself that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind Providence has blessed me, do therefore make this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others heretofore made by me.
1st Item. I desire and direct that my body be buried in a decent and Christian-like manner, suitable to my circumstances and conditions of life. My soul, I trust, shall return to rest with God who gave it.
2nd Item. I desire and direct that all my just debts be paid by my executors hereinafter appointed.
3rd Item. It is my will and desire that my three single daughters, Barbara Rebecca Jane, Frances Clemantine, and Elvira Manerva, have the use of the homestead and plantation, or such portions of it as they may need together with the family tools and stock of every kind after selling off enough to pay the debts, with the growing crop and provisions on hand so long as they or either of them remain single, or until they voluntarily forsake it as a home.
It is my will and desire that my three unmarried daughters have each a cow, a bed, and furniture all to be worth fifty dollars whenever they may need them to make them equal with those married.
It is my will and desire that my youngest son, Seaborn Parks, have the sorrel colt not yet a year old which I consider, when he comes to maturity, will be equal in value to the horse and saddle of my other sons.
When my plantation is no longer required as above mentioned it is my will and desire that it be sold together with the farming tools and stock and whatever else pertains to it, and distribute as follows:
4th Item. I give and bequeath to my daughters, Arminda E. A. Allison, to my daughter Nancy C. Pearman; to the orphan child of my deceased daughter Mary C. Kay; to my daughter, Barbara Rebecca Jane; to my daughter Frances Clemantine; and my daughter Elvira Manerva, fifty dollars each to make their portions equal with that already received by my three sons.
